<div class="embed-wrap"><figure data-feedback="fb:likes,fb:comments"><img src="https://sa.kapamilya.com/absnews/abscbnnews/media/2019/tvpatrol/06/09/20190610-one-starry-night-gc-9104.jpg"/><figcaption>George Calvelo, ABS-CBN News</figcaption></figure></div>MAYNILA - Hinikayat ng European Union (EU) at mga astronomy groups ang mga Pilipino na maging mas interesado sa agham sa likod ng mga bituin, planeta, at iba pang makikita sa kalangitan.Sa isang pagtitipon nitong Lunes na tinawag na “One Starry Night,” tinalakay ng ilang astronomer ang mga kawili-wiling bagay tungkol sa kalangitan, mula sa posibilidad ng buhay sa ibang planeta hanggang sa kung bakit kailangang gumamit ng telescope.“I think astronomy and space is the future. So many applications of space technology are important for everyday life even if we’re not familiar with it,” ani Giovanni Serritella na isang astronomer at program manager ng European Union Delegation para sa environment at climate change. Naisipan ng EU na gawin ang event matapos dalhin ang Copernicus Earth observation program sa Pilipinas noong Marso. Isang dekada nang ginagamit ang programang ito ng EU upang i-monitor ang mundo gamit ang mga satellite para makita ang epekto ng climate change, natural disasters at iba pang bagay. Bukod kay Serritella, nagbigay rin ng lecture si Christopher Lu ng Manila Street Astronomers.Ayon kay Lu, magandang maipakita sa mga Pilipino ang itsura ng buwan at mga planeta upang maintindihan nila ang agham imbes na maniwala sa mga hindi naman totoong kasabihan tulad ng bakunawa at &quot;flat earth&quot;. “Whenever we do free telescope viewings, they ask us questions about astronomy, about science. We become ad hoc teachers along the street,” ani Lu. Ayon sa kaniya, maaaring mag-volunteer sa kanila ang sinuman na interesado sa astronomy. Hindi na nila kailangang bumili ng telescope dahil may ginagamit naman ang grupo para sa kanilang regular na stargazing events. Bagamat naging maulap at hindi na natuloy ang stargazing, naniniwala ang EU na naging matagumpay ang event dahil maraming kabataan ang naging mas interesado pa sa astronomy.
