Here’s further proof of Kathryn Bernardo’s 100% dedication to her craft.

At the global media launch for “Hello, Love, Goodbye” on July 8, 2019, blockbuster director Cathy Garcia-Sampana revealed that apart from not allowing the actress to talk to her castmates, she also forbade her from walking out during upsetting moments.

"Gusto na n’ya akong walk out-an,” Direk Cathy recalled. “Second day 'yun. Eh ang rule ko sa kanya, lahat pwede mong gawin: pwede s’yang magalit sa 'kin, pwede n’ya akong murahin. She can do everything except walk out. So, tiniis n’ya ako.”

As if these rules weren't hard enough for Kathryn, Direk Cathy also "stripped off" her right to use her phone so she could "focus" on her scenes.

"'Pag may heavy scenes, 'yun 'yung bawal ang phone," Kathryn affirmed. "Bawal [din] ako kausapin ng crew and staff."

All these rules – no walking out, no talking with the crew, and no use of the phone – had their purpose, of course. Direk wanted Kathryn to know the pain and suffering of her character Joy, who endures everything as a domestic helper in Hong Kong.

"Sabi ko kay Kath, 'Anong gagawin mo? Aartehan mo 'ko? I-aarte mo lang lahat 'to? Then nobody will believe you,” Direk Cathy recalled her instructions to Kathryn. “’It has to be real. You have to know how it feels. You have to know ano ang pain ng OFW [at] ano ang suffering nila. Until you do that, you cannot be Joy.’"

You’re truly one of a kind, Direk Cathy!
