After her ascent to superstardom by bagging the iconic <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/darna" target="_blank">Darna</a> role, Jane de Leon still has bigger dreams for her career, but without lifting her feet off the ground. She exudes humility and grace as she looks back on her Darna journey and shares her next plans in this Tatak Star Magic Celebrity Conversations episode hosted by Kiara Takahashi.Every superhero has to start from somewhere. Jane has had life-size dreams of entering showbiz since she was young, but she knew that it might affect her studies, which was her priority at the time. Instead, she started with modelling and doing commercials at the age of 13, that is, despite her dad’s disapproval. Kasi if ever na lilipad ako ng Manila, marmi akong iiwanan sa Laguna, ‘yung school ko, friends ko, especially ‘yung church ko kasi active ako sa church,” she recalled praying that God may use her as an instrument to help other people.From there, she reminisced her sweet journey as Darna and how surreal it felt to have bagged the coveted role. “Noong una talaga, akala ko nagpa-prank lang sila. Sabi ko, ‘Totoo ba ‘to?’” That announcement transported her back to her humble beginnings with her mom, who’s been with her in every audition. She remembered just watching and admiring Darna as a kid, “Bumibili ako ng karton na may logo ni Darna sa palengke.” Talk about the power of manifestation!In terms of her preparation, Jane said that she started with having the right mindset, apart from a healthy diet and intense physical training.With or without the magical white stone, Jane values respect, one of the most important things she’s learned being in the industry. Add to that, discipline and responsibility. She defines herself as a “mapagmahal na anak,” somebody who is selfless, caring, empathetic, and jolly, a contrast to most people’s first impression of her that she’s “mataray.”“Hindi naman matatapos lahat sa Darna,” she mused when asked about her acting bucket list, which includes playing a character with split personality and shooting a project in a foreign country. On her dream leading man, she only has one person in mind, “Muntik ko na siyang makatrabaho. Crush ko siya,” she giggled. “Si Paulo Avelino.”“Given na ‘yung may looks siya. Pero kaya ko siya nagustuhan kasi napakagaling niyang artista. ‘Yun ang reason kung bakit gusto ko siyang makatrabaho, hindi lang porke’t crush ko siya.”For Jane, the most rewarding thing about being an actress is meeting different people and stars, “Hindi lang naman sa industry natin pero importante talaga na may makasama tayong iba’t ibang klase ng tao for us to be a better person.”To cap it off, she pays homage to her Star Magic family, “Wala ako dito ngayon kundi dahil sa Star Magic. Ang pinakaimportante dito is ‘yung legacy nila, and isa na ako doon,” she smiled. “Sana hanggang sa huli.”
