From simply chatting with them through split screens, DJ Jhai Ho finally had the chance to catch up with well-loved tandem KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad face-to-face during his exclusive interview with them in the latest episode of Hotspot on January 17.

The episode commenced with the two expressing how happy, excited, nervous, and grateful they are for everything that happened to them in the past year and for whatever’s in store for them this 2023.

And one of the things they’re grateful about is the overwhelming and unwavering support of their avid KDLex shippers, who they commend for their diligence and consistency in showing their love for them by supporting their projects and other media appearances. Alexa considers it as an “answered prayer” to have supporters who continue to stick by her through it all, as well as their beloved “sweethearts”, as how they fondly call the fans of their team-up.

“I feel really blessed to be part of that. Kapag sinasabi nila kami ang inspirasyon nila, hindi nila alam na sa kanila rin kami kumukuha ng inspirasyon to keep going, to be better at what we do,” she conveyed.

Being one of the most popular loveteams in the country at present, it’s indeed inevitable for them to be pitted against or compared with other tandems. While it’s difficult for them to stop it, they just simply try their best to not let those affect them nor their relationships with their fellow artists. Besides, they just remind themselves of who they really are and what they have in them.

On their journey as a loveteam

Since it has been more than a year already since their Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity Season 10 stints was over, they looked back on how their adorable connection had started inside the house, which ensued to the unexpected slew of blessings that they received as soon as they went back to the outside world.

According to KD, their closeness got enkindled when they were writing songs and that prospered into friendship as he consoled her during those times when she was struggling with her personal issues. They used to doubt whether they were attracted to each other or not, and only got to confirm that they indeed have mutual feelings for once they were out of the famous house and only got to see another at work.

Alexa added that they were actually unaware that they were being shipped by their fans, until they went out and discovered about it themselves, which really surprised them. At the same time, they find it nice that people love them because of their authenticity or of something that they didn’t even plan.

On what they’ve learned about and from each other

With everything that they did together and that happened in 2022, KDLex admitted that they’ve become closer than ever and their connection got deeper as they get to know each other better as days go by. And one of the things that they discovered about one another is how total opposites they actually are, which is a good thing as they amazingly complement each other.

As someone who easily gets frantic once her plans don’t go the way she wants them to be, he’s the one who reminds her to chill and that things will eventually turn out fine. Thus, she regards him as “the calm to her storm”. Simultaneously, KD adapted Alexa’s being a planner and being strict when it comes to time.

Being in the showbiz industry for more than a decade now, the 22-year-old actress-singer reveals that she only gives him tips, pieces of advice, and a little push sometimes as she wants him to show his authentic self and to navigate this world on his own. Besides, she believes that KD is already equipped with whatever stuff he needs in order to survive this industry.

On starring in their theater debut “Walang Aray”

After having their first concert and starring in their series together, fans of KDLex were surely delighted when it was announced that they would do the “Walang Aray” theater play, which was ABS-CBN’s collaboration with PETA (Philippine Educational Theater Association). However, Alexa disclosed that they were actually hesitant to accept it because they thought that they still needed more time to prepare themselves for it. In addition, it’s way different from doing a series or a movie for there are no take twos and they will perform in front of a live audience.

Considering the trust that the management had bestowed to them and their eagerness to try out new things and challenge themselves, they both agreed to accept the project. At the same time, they wanted to prove themselves that they deserve to be in this industry. Their rehearsals have already begun last November and the show will run beginning February 17 until May 14.

“Walang Aray” is a modern retelling of the zarzuela “Walang Sugat”, which was written by Filipino writer and playwright Severino Reyes. It will still be set in the Spanish colonial time in the country, but will feature modern dialogues and modern songs, and is treated as a romantic-comedy.

Apart from “Walang Aray”, the adored loveteam also hinted on the upcoming projects that they are going to do this 2023, yet they are still not allowed to divulge. Thus, their respective fans and “sweethearts” must stay tuned on their social media accounts.
