With the world changing, naturally, the new generation has also found a different perspective on love and relationships from how these were viewed in the past, making the Gen Z dating scene an interesting territory. And contrary to what older peeps might assume, youngsters are actually intelligent and intentional when it comes to such topics.

In this video, KD Estrada and Alexa Ilacad, two of the most influential Gen Z stars, shared their viewpoints about love with host Bianca Gonzalez. They were asked to play “This or That” where they were given two opposing age-old statements about love and they would choose which one they agree with more.

Round 1: “Opposites attract” or “Similarities make love last”? Considering their dynamic, they went for statement number one. KDLex admitted they have more differences than similarities. For instance, when tired, he seeks comfort from people while she winds down through her alone time. They even have clashing preferences in food – she likes noodles while he’s a bread person.

On a positive note, being different from each other teaches them compromise. Besides, their ‘relationship’ centers more on their connections such as their shared love for music and their introverted personalities.

Round 2: “You and me against the world” versus “It is important that my loved ones like my partner.” The tandem had the same opinion that it’s better if their family approves of their partners, although, they are willing to fight for the person they love when the situation calls for it. Thankfully, both of them are loved by each other’s family and friends.

Round 3: “Love without limits” or “Magtira ka para sa sarili mo?” This is where the debate came in, as KD finds himself in the middle while Alexa said she’d go all out for love.

“I learned to balance that,” he related. “I can give my 100 percent energy, then like, leave some space for myself.” And with that “space” is where me-time comes in where he’s allowed to just enjoy his own company playing the guitar and writing songs. “I have lots of love and dedication with my craft. But I can also balance it out naman by showing the person I love care and doing whatever she needs.”

For Alexa, it’s better to pour in everything in the relationship than have regrets later, even if that means being susceptible to pain. “Kasi life is full of that. It equips me for better things.”

She continued, “I’m the type of person who will give you my all. And at least, let’s say hindi naging okay after, masasabi ko na I have no regrets, wala akong pagkukulang. I tried my best, I gave you my best. And if you didn’t take care of my best, then, okay, bye.”

Meanwhile, KD again emphasized the importance of give-and-take, “I love unconditionally. I’m willing to give my 100 percent. I just found the balance. I found more of the balance lang talaga.”

From there, Alexa concluded that it also depends on the other partner. Naturally, the old Alexa loved without limits and thought of the other person’s happiness more than her own. But, if the person really loves you, will they let you lose yourself in the process of loving them? That’s where healthy balance comes in. Because, in a relationship, you wouldn’t want to be selfless in loving someone who takes all in without giving you anything meaningful in return.

“In loving this person, I love myself as well” – this, according to Alexa, is the healthier relationship mindset, and she has finally found the right person who gives her this kind of affection.

“With KD, doesn’t feel like I’m forgetting myself. It feels like I’m also taking care of myself at the same time even if I’m giving my all. Walang naiiwan, walng lugi,” she said.
