TWBA Toplist: Be inspired by how these celebrities face, handle rejections

<p>Rejections are undoubtedly one of the most painful things that can ever happen to us. Imagine, you’ve finally mustered the courage to do something that you’ve been wanting to do or to seize an opportunity that you’ve been yearning to attain, only to end up being turned down? Ouch, right?</p><p>However, despite how heartbreaking and distressing it could be, we have no choice but to accept it, move forward, and hope that we’re going to succeed in our next attempt. The process may be difficult, but we must keep in mind that, more often than not, rejections could be God’s redirection and protection for us.</p><p>And this speaks truth to the hurtful experiences that the six celebrities in this TWBA Toplist feature went through, especially before they shot to stardom, which they candidly tackled during their respective guesting on the weeknight talk show, “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/tonightwithboyabunda" target="_blank"><strong><em><u>Tonight With Boy Abunda</u></em></strong></a>.” </p><div> </div><div><strong>Andrea Brillantes</strong></div><p>As we all know, Andrea is among the Kapamilya actresses whose career started as a child star. In one of her appearances on the show, the “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/highstreet2024" target="_blank"><em><strong><u>High Street</u></strong></em></a>” lead star recalled how the early years were so tough for her, to the point that she got rejected in the consecutive rejections that she went through.</p><p>Among those rejections, she confessed being heartbroken the deepest when the titular role in the 2011 kiddie fantaserye <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-photos/02090218-throwback-mutya-2011-14523" target="_blank"><strong><u>“Mutya”</u></strong></a> was not given to her, since it has been her dream to portray a mermaid. But two years later, she finally found out that the reason why it was not bestowed on her was because she was meant to do another project – the 2013 drama series <strong>“</strong><a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/articles-photos/76101917-throwback-annaliza-2013-13790" target="_blank"><strong><u>Annaliza</u></strong></a><strong>,”</strong><strong> </strong>which served as her first big break.</p><p>Thus, when asked to give a piece of advice to her “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/kadenangginto" target="_blank"><em><strong><u>Kadenang Ginto</u></strong></em></a>” co-star Francine Diaz, who was with her at the time, Andrea told her to never give up and “to always look at the brighter side of life.”</p><div> </div><div><strong>Jane de Leon</strong></div><p>Prior to appearing in movies and teleseryes, not to mention taking flight as the “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/darna" target="_blank"><strong><u>New Gen Darna</u></strong></a>,” Jane related that she actually went through the same laborious process of getting into the industry as other actors do, from queueing up in auditions to showing up in VTRs and go-sees.</p><p>While those were okay for her since it’s normally part of the course, what hurt her the most was being told that she’s not fit for the role, that she’s not a good actress, and/or that she’s not beautiful. Thankfully, her Mommy Hearty has always been by her side to cheer her up and encourage her to keep going.</p><div> </div><div><strong>RK Bagatsing</strong></div><p>Despite being the younger brother of veteran actor Raymond Bagatsing, RK opted not to ride the fame of his <em>kuya</em> nor to use his influence since he knew how highly respected he is in the industry and he was afraid to not be worthy of it as well. Thus, he decided to do things on his own by going through various go-sees for films and TV shows, as well as by auditioning for “<a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/pbbgen112024" target="_blank"><strong><u>Pinoy Big Brother</u></strong></a>.” </p><p>But before being able to score acting gigs, RK recounted getting a slew of rejections, which eventually got him depressed and made him question his capabilities and appearance. Thankfully, his family was there to help him move beyond it, especially his Kuya Raymond, to whom he’s very thankful for all the perspectives that he had given him. “Believe in yourself” was among the most remarkable pieces of advice that he got from him.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Christian Bables</strong></div><p>He may currently be admired for his handsome looks and compelling portrayals both on TV and film, but not a lot of people know that Christian actually lost his self-esteem in the beginning of his acting career. In one of his conversations with the King of Talk on the program, he recalled receiving nasty and discouraging remarks from other people, which sadly included some of his friends and loved ones.</p><p>Their snide remarks may have taken his confidence away from him at first, but the Kapamilya actor chose to be steadfast about his dreams and kept moving forward. When asked what motivated him to keep pushing through, he told Tito Boy, “<em>Ako po kasi ‘yong tipo ng tao na alam ko ‘yong pupuntahan ko. Kumbaga walang sino man ang makakapagdikta sa’kin sa kung ano man ‘yong gusto</em> <em>ko</em>.”</p><div> </div><div><strong>Janine Berdin</strong></div><p>Before <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/tawagngtanghalan/articles-photos/038060218-winning-moments-janine-berdin-itinanghal-na-tawag-ng-tanghalan-2-grand-champion-4503/" target="_blank"><strong><u>winning Tawag ng Tanghalan Season 2</u></strong></a> and becoming one of the most promising singer-songwriters of her generation, Janine’s first foray into reality talent search was “Star Circle Quest” in 2011, in which she was among the kiddie questors at eight years old. She made it only to the semi-finals of the competition after breaking into the Top 10.</p><p>She was 5 when she started joining singing contests and got the initial tastes of rejection since she didn’t always win. Thankfully, her very supportive parents, who were also the ones to help her prepare for her competitions, were by her side to console her every time she fell short.</p><div> </div><div><strong>Elaine Duran</strong></div><p>With how she remained unstoppable and faithful in spite of the consecutive rejections she got in her TNT auditions from Seasons 1 to Season 3, Elaine indeed amazed the King of Talk. Just in case you were not aware, she actually auditioned for <a href="https://ent.abs-cbn.com/itsshowtime" target="_blank"><em><u><strong>“It’s Showtime”</strong></u></em></a>’s long-running singing contest seven times until she emerged as the grand champion of the third season.</p><p>Indeed, the saying “fall seven times, stand up eight,” in both its literal and figurative context, can be applied to her journey, which was fueled by the inspiration and love she gets from her family, especially her mom.</p><p>We may not know yet at present why some of the things we desire are not given to us, but always remember that everything happens for a reason, and what are meant for us will definitely not miss us. <em>Padayon</em>, Kapamilya!</p>
