The "personal data breach" reported by Globe Telecom is not just a simple error on the part of the company, a consumer group said Wednesday.

Lawyer Rodel Taton, counsel for the Consumers Union of the Philippines, said the issue is "very alarming" for the affected customers since it concerns private data.

"For the consumers, this is very alarming because their important private information is being shared," he told ANC's "Market Edge."

"This is not a simple error, it's a violation of the law and it exposed the private data of the consumers."

Globe Telecom said on Monday it had rectified the issue with the affected customers, adding that it only affected some prepaid customers who wanted to avail of concert tickets and access to music-related events.
