MANILA - Both of his parents come from political families, but even at an early age, Rajo Laurel had his mind set away from this.Laurel is the grandson of former President Jose P. Laurel and his father, Jose C. Laurel V, is the Philippine ambassador to Japan. His mother, meanwhile, is from the Teves clan of Negros Oriental.Recalling that his father was the governor of Batangas during the Marcos years but was in the opposition, Laurel shared that talking about politics &quot;leaves a very bad taste&quot; in his mouth.Growing up around politics, he found that &quot;it wasn’t really the life I wanted.&quot;&quot;It was a very difficult life. Politics is really the last thing that I would like for myself or for my family primarily because I think public service is completely different now. It’s completely askew,&quot; he told ANC&#x27;s &quot;Headstart.&quot;&quot;You can help our country. You can help our people not just by being in politics, but by being in the private sector, by doing good on your own. You do not need politics to serve our country,&quot; he said.Laurel proves this as he presents his &quot;Archipelago&quot; collection at the Red Charity Gala to mark his 25 years in the fashion industry.&quot;I wanted to celebrate that and fabric is the fundamental language of my creativity and art. We’re going to be celebrating that,&quot; he said.
