Bulacan, Pampanga to get less irrigation as Angat level drops

MANILA – Farmlands in Bulacan and Pampanga will receive less irrigation from Angat Dam as its water level declines, the head of the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) said Thursday.Dr. Sevillo David Jr. made the statement when asked to confirm an Inquirer report which said that the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) will reduce the water allocation for irrigation in two provinces of Central Luzon.“Tama po yon Kabayan no, kasulukuyan po kasi ang lebel po ng Angat Dam ay nasa 197 meters po at ito po ay halos naging mahigit 10 metro ang baba sa karaniwang lebel niya po ano,” David said.“At sa ganito pong sitwasyon ay minabuti po ng National Water Resources Board na kailangan po nating i-manage ‘no yung tubig diyan sa Angat Dam para naman po mabigyan tayo ng seguridad o yung pangangailangan natin ng tubig hanggang sa summer po ng taon na ito,” he explained.David stressed, however, that enough water will still be provided for irrigation to ensure the survival of crops.“Sa parte po ng NIA ‘no, meron po silang mga tinatawag nating mitigation measures ‘no, mga hakbangin para mapangalagaan po yung supply na nare-release sa kanila.&quot;&quot;Katulad po ng pagma-manage po sa tubig sa irigasyon…nang sa ganito pong punto, para mapangalagaan yung kasalukuyang nakatanim, ay pwede pa rin pong mapakinabangan at mapangalagaan itong mga pananim na ‘to kahit po medyo nagkaroon ng limitasyon sa alokasyon po para sa irigasyon,” he said.“Sa parte naman po ng Metro Manila water supply, alam naman po natin, patuloy po itong pangamba ng COVID at napakaimportante po ng tubig no, kaya patuloy po na mine-maintain natin yung kasalukuyang alokasyon nila na 48 cubic meters per second.
