Richard Gordon on Monday said he is open to negotiating the penalties under a law he authored mandating bigger license plates on the front and rear of motorcycles, as he appealed for the public to give the measure a chance. &quot;Puwede pa naman pag-usapan (It can still be negotiated),&quot; Gordon said of the penalties under the law, which include imprisonment and a fine of P50,000 to P100,000. The &quot;license plates&quot; in front of motorcycles could also be in the form of stickers and decals, he said. Motorcycle Rights Organization chairman Jobert Bolanos earlier said bigger front plates interfere with the aerodynamics of a motorcycle and may get detached at high speeds or by strong wind. &quot;Gagawin ho nating tama iyan (We&#x27;ll make it right) ,&quot; Gordon said, referring to the law. President Rodrigo Duterte last month <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/03/14/19/duterte-signs-law-requiring-bigger-color-coded-plates-for-motorcycles">signed</a> the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act that aims to prevent crimes by making number plates more readable from a distance. On Saturday he announced the suspension of the measure following the <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/03/24/19/thousands-of-motorcyclists-protest-doble-plaka-law">protest</a> of thousands of motorcycle riders. Gordon said the public should give the law a chance since it could be used to deter crime. &quot;Bigyan naman natin ng kaunting puwang ang tao na ma-identify nila ang pumapatay. Hindi pa nga pinapairal, binabaril na natin. Wala pang IRR (Implementing Rules and Regulations),&quot; he said. (Let&#x27;s give a chance for the people to identify assassins.
