A rocket fired from Lebanon made its way through Israel's Iron Dome defense system and hit one of the main highways east of Tel Aviv, police said on Tuesday (October 1).

Police spokesperson Guy Bachar said the rocket was part of a larger barrage that was mostly intercepted and that the impact on the southbound route caused shrapnel to injure a bus driver traveling on the other side of the road.

Around three people in total were injured, he said.

Iran-backed Hezbollah said it had fired a barrage of missiles into Israel on Tuesday, including at its spy agency near Tel Aviv, as Israel said commando and paratroop units launched raids into Lebanon as part of a "limited" ground incursion.

Iran's allies - from Hezbollah to Yemen's Houthis to armed groups in Iraq - have weighed in with attacks in the region in support of Hamas in the Gaza war, raising fears the conflict will engulf the Middle East and suck in the United States and Tehran.
