Tensions were high on the northern Mexican border in Ciudad Juarez on Monday (May 13) when a group of migrants attempted to cut through the fence erected by the Texas National Guard to prevent them from approaching the border wall.The migrants&#x27; attempt was spotted by agents who drove to the area in a vehicle and began to dissuade them while calling for backup. Minutes later, Texas guardsmen arrived on the scene with pepper spray rifles and ordered the migrants to move away from the fence.As the group dispersed towards the Mexican side, the agents fired several pepper spray canisters in their direction.Migrants on the scene asked United States President Joe Biden to let them cross to the U.S. side, arguing that they were a small group of less than 150 people, including children and adults.Biden, a Democrat seeking re-election in November, took office in 2021 promising a more humane approach to border security than his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, an immigration hardliner.Biden has toughened his approach to border security in recent months as immigration has emerged as a top concern among voters.
