<div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:498px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1718686094379arrest.jpg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left"><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted">Alleged Filipino Jihadist Judd Sanson was arrested in New York. <em>Screenshot from a video posted by Crime in NYC on X</em></span> </span></span></span></div><div><span>NEW YORK — 27-year-old Judd Sanson, who has been labeled as a suspected &quot;Jihadist&quot; by local media, appeared before Judge Edwin Novillo at the Queens Criminal Court in New York City on Monday.  </span></div><div><span>The Hollis, Queens resident was arraigned last Thursday, June 13, on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, among other charges.  </span></div><div><span>According to the Office of Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, police officers arrested Sanson in a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 12, and caught him heavily armed with dangerous weapons in his 2013 black Ford Explorer with obscured license plates.  </span><span><br/></span></div><div><span>Sanson was spotted with a covered license plate in the vicinity of 86th Street and Ditmars in Queens.  </span><span></span><br/></div><p><span>&quot;That location should be significant because on June 3rd, on 86th and 23rd Street, we had two members of this department in the public safety shot from the 115, so a block away,&quot; said </span>Jeffrey B. Maddrey, NYPD chief of department.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/1718672423599DONpinoyjihadistPHOTO1 Weapons.jpeg" style="width:950px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span>His arsenal of weapons includes a loaded 9-millimeter semiautomatic pistol, ammunition, knives, a machete, a stun gun, a whip, a body armor vest with an NYPD patch inside, an MTA vest, and a baton with writing on it that read, &quot;Left me no choice,&quot; &quot;You gon learn today,&quot; and an Arabic expression that translates to &quot;Ask in God for forgiveness.&quot;</span></div><div><span></span><span>&quot;The ghost cars and why we put such an emphasis on it. The work that these officers are doing is keeping people safe, saving lives. An obstructed license plate turned into an arrest for a person that is heavily armed, gun, knives, weapons, very dangerous to our community,&quot; Maddrey said.</span></div><div><span></span><span>Kaz Daughtry, </span><span>NYPD deputy commissioner of operations, said: </span><span>&quot;Obstructed license plate/ghost car, ask yourself why is his license plate covered for? What does he intend to do? Before deciding to place these items on his vehicle.&quot;</span></div><div><span></span><span>Local reports say that Sanson, who has two kids, spent Father’s Day in Rikers Island and is being held without bail.  </span></div><div><span></span><span>At his Monday morning court date, </span><span></span><span>Sanson’s public defender Thomas Michael Montella objected to the presence of local media, including ABS-CBN News, after the judge approved photo and video coverage of this court proceeding.  </span></div><p><span>&quot;I believe if the general public sees my client’s face plastered in the press with allegations that are yet to be proven, that they will unfairly come to a conclusion prior to getting any evidence of the matter,&quot; public defender </span>Thomas Michael Montella said.<span></span></p><div><span></span><span>Judge Novillo denied Montella’s objection to the media coverage and reiterated that this is an open public courtroom, so the court allowed the press to continue recording.  </span></div><div><span></span><span>A grand jury will determine if there is enough evidence to bring Sanson’s criminal charges to trial and if so determined, Sanson will be back in court on July 9.  </span></div><div><span><br/></span><span>Sanson will remain in Rikers Island until his next court date.  </span></div><div><span><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></span></div><div><br/></div><div><span></span><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/T7bjQ88FzTk?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
