Greek authorities on Tuesday (July 16) issued emergency measures for workers as meteorologists warned unusually high temperatures were set to besiege the country.The labor ministry advised a mandatory work pause from 12:00 - 17:00 p.m. (900 GMT - 1400 GMT) for employees working outdoors once temperatures reach 40 degrees Celsius until Friday (July 19).Employees, particularly high risk groups, were told to work remotely from home for the next few days.Red Cross workers were out on Athens streets advising the public on safety measures on Tuesday to guard against the heat.The fire service warned of a high risk for wildfires.Greece suffered its first sweltering heat wave in June, temporarily shutting down schools and ancient sites after temperatures surpassed 43 degrees Celsius (109 degrees Fahrenheit)Last year, high temperatures fuelled deadly wildfires, while the past winter was the warmest on record.Wildfires have begun earlier than expected this year, including in March.
