Well-wishers gave a warm welcome to a 10-year-old Palestinian amputee on Saturday (August 31) as she arrived in the U.S. where she will receive a prosthetic limb.Baylasan&#x27;s family home in Khan Younis, Gaza was bombed by Israel in November 2023, causing her to lose her leg, according to HEAL Palestine, a U.S. nonprofit who helped organize her medical treatment. She was evacuated to Egypt and made the long journey from Cairo alone because her mother was also injured in the bombing.She arrived at Dulles airport outside of Washington D.C. on Saturday afternoon to the raucous cheers of supporters.&quot;Being the tough, resilient kid that she is, she&#x27;s really determined to come here, get a new prosthetic leg, undergo physical therapy and learn how to walk again,&quot; said pediatrician and HEAL Palestine co-founder Zeena Salman.Gaza&#x27;s health ministry says at least 40,691 Palestinians have been killed and 94,060 injured since Israel mounted a military offensive in response to a Hamas-led attack in Israel that killed 1200 people.Health officials estimate that at least 14,000 Palestinian children have been killed in Israel’s offensive. One in three children in northern Gaza are acutely malnourished or suffering from wasting, according to the U.N. children’s agency UNICEF.Palestinian-American Omar Shreim, who emigrated to the U.S. 40 years ago, said that Baylasan&#x27;s suffering shows how important it is to support the people of Gaza.&quot;It&#x27;s time for people actually to look at things in a different way and a different angle where people really need support and we need to actually support them,&quot; he said.Israeli attacks have devastated the Palestinian healthcare system, rendering many of Gaza’s hospitals inoperable.Nearly the entire Gaza population of 2.3 million has been displaced.
