Iza Calzado signs three-year contract with ABS-CBN

She signed a three-year contract with ABS-CBN Tuesday, January 24, and present at the contract signing were ABS-CBN president, Ms. Charo Santos-Concio, Channel Head Ms. Cory Vidanes, Head of Entertainment Ms. Linggit Tan and Busines Unit Head Direk Laurenti Dyogi. Among the projects, that Iza will do in the future include a teleserye, a reality-based TV show and a movie. “Masayang-masaya ako and I’m very ecstatic and I’m looking forward to what the next three years would be like for me. I’m hopeful at alam ko na makabubuti ito para sa amin. Sabi ko kasi I’m all for my growth right now, I want to experience new things and hopefully learn a lot of new things also and I can only do that if I make certain decisions in my life that would lead me to certain experiences. The versatile actress explained that she is grateful to her former mother network but she needed to make a big decision for her career-growth. “Unang-una po sa lahat I would like to say that hindi ako ingrata,” she said. “I am grateful for all the opportunities GMA-7 has given me.” For 10 years, Iza said that she was given projects that brought her the recognition she has now. “But I think it is time for me to grow and evolve and learn. I think it’s just a matter of timing and I’ve always wanted to work again with people from Channel 2.” Iza did a movie with Star Cinema before in the movie Milan (2003) with Piolo Pascual and Claudine Barretto. After she had done the said movie, Iza shared that she wished to do that again one day. “I really enjoyed working with them and sabi ko lang one day I will work with them again and I guess this is the way it works. If it is a business you will have to make certain decisions, hopefully without burning bridges and without severing. Of course it’s not the easiest decision to make, especially kasi you get attached to certain people. Like I always keep saying, grateful ka pa rin pero oras na para gawin ko ito.” She also feels lucky that she will be able to do the kinds of projects she really wants to do in ABS-CBN. “So far kasi ‘yung ibibigay sa akin at gagawin ko, ‘yun din ang gusto ko. I guess that’s one of the reasons why I moved because at this point in my life, we share the same vision for myself and for my career.” Iza succeeded in making a name for herself as a dramatic actress and as a host but having transferred to ABS-CBN means competing with a lot of big names in showbiz since Kapamilya network houses a lot of famous celebrities. However, Iza said that she welcomes the competition. “A lot of competition which I might actually like,” she replied smiling. “At the end of the day, it serves as motivation and challenge. But I am not to take anyone’s place. I would like to make my own space and (and create a) certain niche only I can fill.”

The acclaimed actress says that she has decided to transfer to ABS-CBN to grow as an artist.
