Gerald Anderson on Maja Salvador and Kim Chiu's falling out: 'Mahirap yung sitwasyon'

In StarStudio Magazine’s June cover story, Gerald Anderson reiterated that he and Maja Salvador were not yet in a relationship when they vacationed at Misibis Bay, a private island resort in Bicol, late in December of last year. “At that time, we were spending time with each other. We were getting to know each other pero bakit ninyo kailangang sabihin na kami na? Wala ba kaming chance to get to know each other?” asked Gerald who still couldn’t believe how the issue about that trip got blown out of proportion.

He further shared that he fell in love with Maja as they got the chance to spend more time together. It paved the way for them to break whatever first impressions they had about each other in the past, particularly Maja who admitted that she used to think of him as a playboy. “Nakita mo na, nararamdaman mo na, ang sarap kasama nito. Parang iba yung feeling na nakukuha mo. Iba yung feeling kapag kasama mo siya. Which is I think, lahat tayo ganoon eh, ‘di ba? You can’t fall in love with a person kung hindi mo siya nakakasama.”

While Gerald admittedly knew that the consequences of getting closer with Maja supposedly led to her falling out with former BFF Kim Chiu, he stood by his decision not to pass up his chance for love. “Yung iba wala sa sitwasyon they don’t know how it really is ‘di ba? Sana hindi po isipin ng mga tao na hindi ko kinu-consider yung feelings ng ibang tao, which I did and I do. But at the same time, you also have to find happiness for yourself.”

It’s a tough decision to make, but Gerald refused to let other people’s opinions stop him from following his heart’s desire. As it is, he and Maja both received a lot of negative feedback because of the whole controversy. “Nararamdaman ko na yung feelings na parang gusto ko siya. Bakit ko pipigilan? Bakit ko hahayaang mawala pa siya sa akin because of the backlash of people? They can say what they want but who are they to judge?”

Nevertheless, Gerald remained respectful when it comes to Kim, his former reel and real-life sweetheart. “The person that’s hurting because of our (he and Maja) relationship is someone I cared for also. Hindi rin po maiiwasan na hindi po ako masasaktan. All I can say about the situation is, napakahirap and the only way to get through this is being mature about it and just keep moving forward and being happy, being happy for the person you love and being happy for the other person. And just pray for everyone.”
