Erik Santos on celebrating 10 years in showbiz: 'I want to be iconic'

<div><img src="" alt="071213-erik_main.jpg" width="305" height="290" align="left" border="0"/>After recently launching his new album <i>The Erik Santos Collection</i>, Erik Santos admitted that he wants to be able to leave a lasting mark on the music industry as well as start his own family. “As I grow and enter my second decade in the industry, <i>siyempre</i> I want to eventually I want to have my own family <i>na kasi siyempre medyo nasa </i>marrying age <i>na rin ako. Dun yun sa</i> personal side <i>naman, sa</i> career I want to be iconic. I want to reach the stature of Martin (Nievera) and Gary V. (Valenciano) na until now <i>nandiyan pa rin sila.</i> I want to be called an icon <i>siguro</i> ten years from now, <i>sarap nun eh. Yung parang na</i>-maintain <i>mo yung </i>career mo for 10, 20, 30 years. That’s something <i>na ise</i>-celebratei People come and go in show business <i>pero</i> how you sustain your career is still the name of the game,” he said during his presscon held last July 11 at Max’s restaurant in Quezon City.</div><div><br/></div><div>The 30-year-old singer said his new album is full of his top hits. “It’s a collection of all my theme songs <i>sa teleseryes </i>at movies, all the things that I have recorded <i>sa loob ng sampung taon. Sinakto lang namin yung</i> 30 <i>na</i> songs. It’s a 2 CD album. So from ‘<i>It Might Be You</i>’ to ‘<i>Muling Buksan Ang Puso</i>’ <i>nandito</i>,” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>Apart from that, he is also working on another album that will mark a lot of changes in his musical career. “It’s going to be a new sound <i>kasi </i>it’s going to be my reinvention as a singer. So <i>mahirap naman pong sasabihin ko na yung konsepto pero </i>new sound <i>siya, hindi siya yung</i> the usual <i>na ginagawa ko</i> for ten years<i> na birit, </i>them songs, <i>ganyan ganyan.</i> Different form what I’ve been doing for ten years. <i>Ibig sabihin, kapag kinompare mo lahat ng</i> albums<i> ko, lahat ng kanta ko dun sa ire</i>-record <i>ko</i> this time, <i>iba siya,</i>” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>Despite the new sound, Erik said he will never veer away from doing ballads. “Of course<i> hindi.</i> That’s my core. I believe that if you’re a balladeer, balladeer <i>ka talaga</i>,” he added.</div><div><br/></div><div>When it comes to ballads, Erik said he is inspired to listen to different kinds of music right now. Currently, he admits to admiring an American Idol winner the most. “<i>Si</i> Philip Philips.<i> Ang ganda ng</i> album<i> niya.</i> Actually <i>iba ibang</i> genre <i>yung pinapakinggan ko.</i> I like the new album of Michael Buble, then <i>si</i> Philip Philips,” he revealed.</div><div><br/></div><div>The talented singer also shared his upcoming plans for his ten-year celebration in showbiz. “<i>Siyempre nag</i>-launch<i> na kami nung</i> album<i> ko,</i> this is my gift to my fans. <i>Kung makikita niyo</i>, it’s a two CD album <i>tapos yung lahat ng kanta kilala lahat</i> and it’s only P250 <i>kasi gusto namin maging </i>affordable<i> siya sa</i> fans. <i>Pangalawa,</i> I’ll be having a tour on August and September in the U.S then<i> yung</i> culmination would be my tenth year concert, November 9 <i>meron akong</i> big concert that will happen in PICC Plenary Hall,” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>Erik admitted he is proud of his body of work which is reflected in his newest offering to his fans. “It’s a representation of my ten years in the business. So since <i>medyo nakilala nga ako sa paggawa ng</i> theme songs,<i> ito yung kumabaga ginawa naming</i> album for my ten year celebration. <i>Pinakamahal kong</i> song <i>dito yung ‘Pagbigyan Muli’ kasi </i>it was my first single from my very first album so nag-number one <i>siya </i>for 20 weeks sa radio.
