Comedian Empoy Marquez on role in ‘My Illegal Wife’: ‘Dito mas guwapo akong kakaiba’

<div><img src="" alt="061914-empoy.main.jpg" width="400" height="290" align="left" border="0"/>As part of the cast of the Skylight films&#x27; movie <i>My Illegal Wife</i>, comedian Empoy Marquez said he is thankful to be offered another project in the Kapamilya network. “<i>Nagulat at</i> flattered <i>ako dahil sa sunod sunod na</i> movie projects <i>na natatanggap ko sa</i> Star Cinema <i>ay napapakain ko ng maayos yung pamilya ko, tatlong beses sa isang araw</i>. <i>May</i> carbonara <i>na po at</i> caesars salad. <i>Dati</i> squid balls <i>lang po</i> (laughs),” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>In <i>My Illegal Wife</i>, Empoy plays the role of Zanjoe Marudo&#x27;s stepbrother. “<i>Aabangan nila ito kasi kakaiba yung</i> role <i>ko dito. Mayaman ako dito, ampon ko si</i> Zanjoe Marudo, <i>parang kinakapatid ko na siya at saka guwapo ako. Guwapo naman ako lagi pero</i> I know <i>naman yun </i>everyday <i>pero dito mas guwapo akong kakaiba</i>,” he proudly shared.</div><div><br/></div><div>Known for his unforgettable punchlines onscreen, the humble comedian said his scenes in <i>My Illegal Wife</i> are no less different and explains the process behind coming up with the funniest jokes. “Actually <i>yung dumarating na </i>script <i>sa amin ay nire</i>-revise <i>na lang namin sa</i> set <i>tapos nag-i</i>-input <i>ako kung ano man yung maidadagdag ko sa</i> script <i>para mas mapaganda yun. Tulong-tulong kami</i>,” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>Off-camera, Empoy described himself as a simple guy from the province who commutes to Manila whenever he has work. “<i>Pag nasa bahay ako, tahimik lang ako pero pagdating ng paluwas nako sa Maynila kasi taga-Baliwag, Bulacan ako, umaandar na yung pagiging</i> <i>komedyante ko</i>,” he added.</div><div><br/></div><div>Growing up being a big fan of comedy, Empoy said he has always been a natural comedian even when he was small and still looks up to a lot of veteran comedians. “Inspiration <i>ko sila</i> Dolphy, Joey De Leon, <i>ayan</i>, Charlie Chaplin, <i>marami. Bata pa lang pinanunuod ko na yung mga</i> comedy <i>nila. Naging</i> natural <i>na siya sa akin mula nung bata ako. Pagharap ko sa salamin natawa ako</i>,” he joked.</div><div><br/></div><div>When it comes to his dream role, the musician-turned-actor said he wants to do something out of his comfort zone. “<i>Gusto ko </i>drama<i> naman</i>. Dream <i>ko yun na magkaroon ng</i> dream role, <i>yung isang matinding</i> drama <i>na makita naman ng tao na</i> flexible <i>ako, na may</i> other <i>side yung</i> acting <i>ko ang ma</i>-discover <i>nila</i>,” he confessed.</div><div><br/></div><div>Easily distinguishable because of his hippie looks and long hair, Empoy said there is actually good reason why he chose to look different and grow a moustache. “Actually <i>ganito na ko lagi paggising ko.
