Following the success of the movie Kita Kita last year, which was under his film production company Spring Films, he is now working on their Valentine movie Meet Me in St. Gallen starring Bela Padilla and Carlo Aquino. With scenes shot in Switzerland, the movie, co-produced with Viva Films, is set to come out in cinemas this February 7.

Aside from his film production, Piolo has also ventured into food business. He recently opened his own franchise of a shawarma brand which he endorses.

“There was an opportunity so why not, di ba? And when you believe in the product that you endorse, of course, you want to do something else. And a lot of my friends have already done the franchising and sabi ko, why not do it myself? I’m always here. I’m always in the area. And the owner of this place is a good friend of mine so just thought of putting up a branch here,” he told PUSH during his branch’s ribbon-cutting event.

Partnering with three more people, one of his colleagues in his new venture is Alex Gonzaga’s boyfriend Mikee Morada.

“Matagal na kaming magkakilala ni Mikee and magbabarkada kami. Since they own the property, we just thought of putting a business… kasi patok na patok siya sa tao. Mahilig kaming kumain din… After workout, wala kaming makainan. Ang sabi ko they have this area, they have this opening here, why not Turks? Kasi matagal na rin. Akala ng tao, ako ang may ari ng Turks. It’s only my first branch and I’m sharing with a lot of other people,” he said, adding that he is happy with the growth of the brand.

Aside from his entrepreneurial activities, Piolo will also be busy with his acting career as he got an invite to this year’s Berlinale (Berlin International Film Festival) for “The film that I did with Lav Diaz that we shot in Malaysia so we’re going to Berlin in February.”

He is also working on a teleserye with Arci Munoz, Alessandra de Rossi, Empoy Marquez, and JC de Vera. “So far, okay na kami sa pilot (episode). We’re just waiting for a timeslot sa grid ng ABS. Sana ‘wag agad kasi medyo mahirap gumawa ng soap, eh. We delayed a bit para makapagbangko ng mas maraming (episodes).”
