Shaina Magdayao clarifies ‘replacing’ Angelica Panganiban in soap

The soap is set to premiere on national TV this coming January 15.Shaina, for her part, was well aware that certain people might perceive her acceptance of the role differently.“That was actually the first question that I asked when they were presenting it to me, when they were pitching it to me, because I want to be careful and para alam ko rin kung ano ang pinapasok ko,” she started during an interview at the media launch of their upcoming soap.She continued, “And then they clarified it to me na parang two years ago na nila itong ni-launch and then hindi sila nakapag-taping.”According to Shaina, the soap’s writers did a “total plot change.”“So magkapatid pa rin pero it was offered to someone else already, not Angelica,” she said pertaining to Isabelle Daza, who was rumored to be the second artist in line for the character.Unfortunately though, Shaina confirmed that things still didn’t materialize for Isabelle.“So ayun, they pitched it to me and then kung ano man ang pinitch nila sa akin, during our taping, pinalitan pa rin. So ang dami ng changes and it’s not the same role. I had to clarify it also,” Shaina explained.Meanwhile, the former child actress revealed that she had an especially tough time breathing life to Samantha del Mundo because her character is “very dark.” Despite this, Shaina didn’t have any reservations in accepting the project.“Siguro nung bata ako kasi I’m not secure yet kasi siyempre ‘Ay ang gusto ko ganito yung role, bait baitan’ or nagma-matter rin kung ‘Ay gusto ko bida or gusto ko mabait ang role,’” she said.“Siguro at this point in my life and in my career, keber na te. Basta may trabaho,” Shaina added.Where is this confidence of hers coming from?“Siguro it has a lot to do yun, yung security ko na kilala niyo naman ako eh. Ang tagal tagal ko na dito sa showbiz, everyone knows me kung sino man ako. So it’s actually more of a challenge na hindi niyo makita si Shaina, ang makita niyo si Samantha Del Mundo, the character that I’m portraying,” said Shaina.In the end, Shaina considers her newest role a “beautiful challenge” even if it took her a month before she was able to get hold of Samantha’s “devious” personality.Catch Shaina, Julia, Paulo, and Aljur in Asintado starting January 15 on Kapamilya Gold.
