"With her kasi, naiba 'yung road. Kasi before, it was always the same endings. Parang routine. With her, it was really different. So sabi ko, I have to keep this one kasi I guess ang pinaka go signal ko doon is she is very good para sa akin physically, emotionally, everything. Kasi she makes me feel good about myself. Especially that she knows that I get depressed sometimes with my anxiety and everything," he told PUSH during an interview with the press, sharing how his girlfriend helped him deal with his depression and anxiety brought about by his experiences after he came out as a trans male.

"It's hard to be in a relationship with someone with anxiety and depression kasi nandun na lahat—nandun na 'yung insecurities, 'yung lahat nandoon. But she totally gets it because she's very experienced with people who have the same issues like mine. So nakita ko 'yung patience niya, 'yung everything. And dun ko narealize na 'I'm going to keep this person' kasi hindi lang sa love eh. Because love is given. It's there. Pero 'yung most important is like 'pag meron kaming bad times. Dun ko narealize na she's the one kasi how we handled the bad times. And 'yun 'yung pinakamaganda dun," he added, citing the reasons why he finally decided to pop the question.

Asked about the details of his wedding, Jake Zyrus said: "Definitely not here. Kasi siyempre you know how it is here in our country. But iniisip pa namin kung saan kasi madami namang countries na okay ang same-sex marriage. We don't know where yet, but kung next year, we still don't know. Open naman kami sa lahat. You know, the engagement is para sa amin is a commitment. We proceeded to that level kasi it's my way of saying na 'I'm hers and she's mine' and it's a commitment. It's a symbol of loyalty. That's why we took it to the next level."
