OPM fans who grew up in the 70s and 80s recognize Hajji Alejandro as the “Kilabot Ng Mga Kolehiyala” up to this day. But is he now ready to pass on the crown to another artist after more than four decades of holding it? As it turns out, he isn’t. And no, he will never be.

“Madami na kasi through the years, ‘di ba? Nung napunta ako sa Amerika ng five years, ang daming naging kilabot nung time na ‘yun ‘di ba? Mga bagong artista nun. Naging kaibigan ko rin sila, and I think hindi nila gusto ‘yun eh. ‘Yung mga managers nila ang pumili nun because they’re saying isa lang ‘yun,” he said during the presscon for his upcoming concert.

“’Di ba tayo pwedeng mag-isip ng sarili nating moniker ‘di ba kasi iba when you say original. Ikaw ba gusto mong sabihin na ikaw na ‘yung bagong ganito or susunod na ganito? Why not make your own mark, ‘yung ikaw ‘yung original. So I cannot say susunod na “Kilabot Ng Mga Kolehiyala” si ganito. Baka magalit pa sa'kin ‘yun,” he added.

Meanwhile, Hajji is set to mark his 45 years in the industry with a concert at the Theatre at Soloire on June 23 titled “Powerhouse IV: Hajji Ako At Ang Aking Musika 45 Taon.”

Among those who will be joining him in his upcoming concert are Marco Sison, Rey Valera, Celeste Legaspi, and daughter Rachel Alejandro.
