EXCLUSIVE: Nikki Gil says no regrets leaving showbiz: ‘I’m happy with my quiet life’

It’s been four years since she bid goodbye to showbiz and settled down with her businessman husband BJ Albert but Nikki Gil said she has no regrets after laying low from the public eye. “I’m not missing it much yet (laughs). I’m happy with my quiet life. But I do miss work and the people that I used to work with. Of course I kind of grew up in the industry as well so I spent many years with the staff and my fellow artists. I miss the bond but I think I’ve enjoyed that season enough and I’m just enjoying my season now which is motherhood. I’m an interior design student and now theater,” she shared during the press launch of Repertory Philippines’s 2020 show lineup.As part of Repertory Philippines’s exciting new lineup next year, Nikki looks forward to starring in the iconic Broadway musical Carousel along with Gian Magdangal, a role she immediately said yes to. “Our director Toff De Venecia had me at Rodgers and Hammerstein. Of course Carousel is an iconic musical and being staged by Repertory no less, I couldn’t say no. There was just no way (laughs),” she told PUSH.The 32-year-old mother of one is also busy with her third year of her second degree at the Philippine School of Interior Design (PSID). “I didn’t realize that it’s going to be a lot of work. Especially after having a baby. It’s not as easy to get a lot of work done but I’m managing (laughs). It might take me longer than what I had intended but I just want to finish. I’ve always liked nice spaces. My mom is an interior design graduate. We’ve always kind of flipped houses, make it nice and then sell. My husband is in the real estate industry so it just kind of made sense to dabble,” she explained.As a mom, the Carousel star said she is only open to going back into the limelight only via theater. “As a mom I’m told I am maharot but I am also a disciplinarian. It’s very hard to gauge how much I’ve changed. But I guess my biggest change so far would have to be that I’m more conscious of time and more conscious of time wasted. That’s probably also why I’m not really feeling the desire to go back into showbiz because it’s a lot of time away from my baby and time away from the family which at the moment I’m not really willing to give up,” she said.
