Ryan Cayabyab helps raise P1M through virtual charity concert

Last July 14, National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab led a virtual fundraising concert called At Home with PLDT: No Learner Left Behind, which raised over P1 million to aid in the current transition of schools to do a distance learning set-up because of the current pandemic situation. The concert was hosted by veteran comedian Jon Santos and directed by Paolo Valenciano.

Ryan was also joined at the event by OPM icons like Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Martin Nievera, and Pops Fernandez. The free online concert also featured performances from local theater artists like Gian Magdangal, 8 Taal Ensemble, Sheila Valderama, Yanah Laurel, Lara Maigue, Gabriela Pangilinan, Arman Ferrer, Flord Tena, and David Ezra.

With the country set to implement the distance learning set up starting next month, funds raised from the virtual benefit concert will be used to provide internet and digital tools to students in need. Under the government’s newly mandated school program, students are required to stay home and will take their classes through television-based instruction, printed or digital modules, and other online resources.

This concert brings us together in the spirit of ‘bayanihan’ to help the underprivileged communities – especially the students, teachers, and schools – who are now facing a lot of challenges in online distance learning. We hope that through this online concert, we’re able to unite as one country and contribute for the future of these children.”
