Half-Korean actress Angeli Khang on joining showbiz: ‘I left my school dahil isang opportunity lang ito’

<p>When showbiz newcomer Angeli Khang first told her father, a Korean general, about her plans to get into modeling in 2017, the Fil-Korean actress said he had other dreams in store for her.</p><p>“When he knew about my modeling he wasn’t supportive kasi ang gusto niyang mangyari sa akin ay sundan yung landas niya sa army and he said that it has a lot of better opportunities din. But my heart and mind tell me na gustong gusto ko talaga ‘to kaya I got consent from my mom and she told me to just do whatever makes me happy and I’m thankful that my mom is supportive. And I think I’ll have a lot of explaining to do to my dad (laughs),” she said during the virtual press conference for the latest Vivamax film <i>Mahjong Nights</i>.</p><div> </div><blockquote family. It’s really hard na i-explain sa mom ko but I’m thankful to end up na sobrang supportive niya sa akin and sabi niya as long as I’m happy with what I’m doing and wala akong tinatapakan na tao then ako sa kanya’</u></strong></a></div><p>During the Vivamax press event, Angeli shared how her journey into showbiz started and led to her leaving her studies behind for now.</p><p>“Nag-start ako 2017 as a cosplayer and from there on yung mga tao nagpapa-picture sa akin, dun ko na-realize that I enjoy being in front of the cameras and nung may nag-invite sa akin maging model, grinab ko na talaga yung opportunity na yun kasi alam ko na hindi ako magiging mahiyain sa harap ng camera. Ung nakita ng manager ko na si Jojo Veloso na may potential ako, thankful ako na inaya niya ako na magkaroon ng agency sa Viva Artists. Nagawa ko ito dahil dream ko maging artista. Kaya nung nagkaroon ako ng opportunity, I left my school dahil isang opportunity lang ito sa buhay. But after that, I’m planning to be a chef or lawyer but I want to be successful and focus on my career muna.</p><p>“Pinaghandaan ko itong movie na ‘to and sa ganitong mga scenes dahil sabi ng manager ko kunin ko daw itong obstacle na ‘to sa buhay as my stepping stone and work hard on it so that when the people see your effort, sila na mismo ang tutulong sa ‘yo,” she explained. </p><p>After starring in the erotic film <i>Taya</i>, Angeli explained why she did not mind doing back-to-back sexy films this year.</p><p>“It made me say ‘yes’ nung nalaman ko yung story niya hindi lang basta may magawa, talagang the details, the research, the mental health, the emotions and everything, on point siya. Na-feel ko talaga sa sarili ko na kung nangyayari ito hindi pa sa pandemic, nasad ako na dumami pa yung cases nung nagkaroon ng pandemic. So seeing the comments of some people who judged kagad yungcpagka erotic in a bad way, inaanyayahan ko kayong panuorin itong <i>Mahjong Nights</i> at talagang it’s an eye-opener to all. I hope na magustuhan niyo dahil marami kaming mga pasabog dun. After watching the movie I’m sure madaming maiiwan na feelings sa inyo kaya panuorin niyo ‘to,” she added.</p><p><i>Mahjong Nights</i> starts streaming on Vivamax on November 12.
