Taemin of South Korean boy group SHINee will enlist in the military by the end of May, the singer announced on Monday, April 19.

The 27-year-old singer made the announcement about his military enlistment during a V Live broadcast.

According to Taemin, he wanted to tell the news directly to his fans who stood by him throughout the years.

“There is more than a month left, so I didn’t want to spend it already being sad. I wanted to tell you with my own words directly,” Taemin said as translated by Korean entertainment site Soompi.

But Taemin promised to showcase his music before he temporarily steps out of the limelight.

“I’m going to do a Beyond LIVE [concert] on May 2. My solo album will come out in the second or third week of May. The album schedule hasn’t been confirmed yet, but I will be able to show one last brilliant performance and music,” he stated.

Born Lee Tae-min, he is also a member of SM Entertainment’s Super M. He debuted as part of SHINee back in 2008 at a young age of 14.

Earlier this month, SHINee dropped the newly-repackaged version of the album “Atlantis.”

He also ventured into singing as a solo artist with a two-part album released last year being his latest.

As an actor, he has appeared in dramas including “Salamander Guru and the Shadows” and “Dating Agency: Cyrano.”
