As she is set to play her first solo lead role in the drama series Init Sa Magdamag starting this month, Yam Concepcion said she would like to give thanks to the person who discovered her and encouraged her to join showbiz.
As she is set to play her first solo lead role in the drama series Init Sa Magdamag starting this month, Yam Concepcion said she would like to give thanks to the person who discovered her and encouraged her to join showbiz.
“Nung nagsisimula ako, yung naka-discover sa akin si tita Claire Dela Fuente and alam niyo naman yung nangyari sa kanya ngayon. Nakakagulat eh. Sobrang sudden yung nangyari. Nung Sunday tumawag pa siya sa akin. Sabi niya sa akin, ‘Yam, napanuod ko na yung trailer ng Init Sa Magdamag. Congratulations.’ Four minutes lang yun sa telepono. So sabi ko, ‘Thank you, tita Claire.’ Hindi ko naman in-expect na bigla na lang siya mawawala. So itong project na ito para din sa kanya. Gusto ko lang siya i-recognize dahil kung hindi dahil sa kanya wala ako dito ngayon. So, this is for tita Claire. May her soul rest in peace,” she said.

Although she was discovered by the OPM icon (who passed away last month), Yam said she was never a singer. “Hindi ako singer. Drummer ako ng banda so ka-banda ko dati si Monty Macalino ng Mayonnaise tapos inimbita iya ako maging leading lady ng music video nila nung ni-release nila yung single nila na ‘Sinungaling.’ Tapos nakita ni tita Claire yung music video. Kinontak niya si Monty. Ayun. Dun kami nagkakilala tapos ni-refer niya ako sa Viva kaya ako napunta sa Viva Entertainment,” she shared.

“Of course, meron naman kaming mga swab tests eh bago kami pumasok sa taping namin so we have a swab test upon entry and exit swab also. And sinunod namin lahat ng health protocols. This show it’s not just about us. Yung tunay na nagdala nito is yung mga nagsulat ng kuwento, yung mga writers. Because of their guidance, parang kami tuloy yung magaling. But it’s all because of the people behind the camera, our creatives, our directors, yung writers, lahat. Collaborative talaga,” she added.
