Earlier this year, YouTube content creator Wil Dasovich flew to Nepal to join 10 other vloggers to trek the highest mountain on earth above sea level.

Wil’s trip to Mt. Everest was part of the World Vlogging Challenge to help raise awareness about the impact of global warming on the Himalayan glaciers. The contest also had a cash prize of $100,000.

The 31-year-old vlogger shared the good news in an Instagram post last October 16. “We did it!!! I just want to make you all proud & it’s moments like these where I get to represent an entire country that makes me feel like I’m creating an impact,” he began.

“I feel high. I don’t know why. Awards ceremonies freak me out. I got so scared when I got on stage. The jitters never go away and I guess it just means that I really care about what I do. As a content creator, it’s extremely difficult to make a piece that is both entertaining and meaningful and that has an impact on the world,” he said.

“It’s something I think I and many creators struggle with. Because it’s easy to be entertaining and get a lot of views. And it’s easy to make a piece that’s informative but it’s really difficult to bind those two together. So the amount of work it took to create this vlog was easily more than month including the two weeks of hiking, the weeks in the editing cave, the weeks of writing, and to receive a recognition like this, it means a lot,” he added.

“I was getting emotional because there’s so much that we all went through during that hike in the Himalayas. So much mentally, physically, emotionally. A lot of tears were shed. There’s a lot of stuff personally I was going through that I never really shared,” he said.
