<p>Veteran actress and singer Sylvia La Torre has passed away according to her son, Artie Perez de Tagle. Sylvia peacefully died in her sleep at around 7 in the morning of December 1.</p><div><iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-0" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/ClpRdtrvxek/embed/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=506&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fent-workbench-web.abs-cbn.com&amp;rp=%2F#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A131760.60000002384%2C%22ls%22%3A131403.89999997616%2C%22le%22%3A131477%7D" allowtransparency="true" allowfullscreen="" frameBorder="0" height="880" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-0" scrolling="no" style="background:white;max-width:540px;width:calc(100% - 2px);border-radius:3px;border:1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219);box-shadow:none;display:block;margin:0px 0px 12px;min-width:326px;padding:0px"></iframe></div><script async="" src="//www.instagram.com/embed.js"></script><p>She was 89 years old.</p><p>Actress Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, one of the grandchildren of the singer, penned a short message to commemorate her grandmother.</p><p>“RIP to my grandmother, Ms. Sylvia La Torre Perez de Tagle.- First Lady of Philippine Television, Queen of Kundiman, and Tandang Sora Awardee, devoted wife of Dr. Celso Perez de Tagle, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, caring auntie, and affectionate friend, died peacefully in her sleep on December 1st at 7:02 am. At the time of her death, she was with her husband of 68 years and her children, Artie, Bernie, and Che-Che,” she wrote.</p><p>Anna recalled how big of an impact Sylvia had on her growing up. As a performer herself, the American actress shared that it was her grandmother who was her inspiration to pursue acting and singing.</p><p>“My grandmother was my first inspiration when it came to singing and acting. She was my first vocal coach and taught me all of her kundimans. Thank you for passing on your love of music to me and I will surely continue your legacy. Gone too soon but always in our hearts. Your song has ended but your melody will linger on. Love you Mama Cita,” she added.</p><p>Theater actress Lea Salonga commented on the American actress’s post, sending her condolences to the bereaved family.</p><p>“Ohhhhhh noooooooo!!!! I thought she was one of the folks that would live forever!!! I’m so sorry, Anna… sending condolences and hugs,” she commented.</p><p>Dubbed as the Queen of Kundiman, Sylvia made waves in the music and film industry as early as when she was five years old. She performed in the 1941 film, Ang Maestra, when she was just seven and soon after performed in theaters and was a regular at the Manila Grand Opera House. </p>
