Liza Diño on producing concerts with Sylvia Sanchez: ‘We call her nanay’

After officially launching Fire and Ice productions last year with her husband Ice Seguerra, Liza Diño is excited about what’s in store for them this year when it comes to producing more events like Ice’s successful concert Becoming Ice last October. Liza shared how excited they are to do the Cebu leg of the show next month.

“Sabay sabay tayong nanunuod ng Eat Bulaga. Napanuod natin siya habang lumalaki siya. Sinundan natin pati ang paglaki niya at kasabay nun is the memories of our youth. It was so touching, it was such an experience kasi talagang lahat ng nakapanuod ng concert na yun, sabi nila iba daw yung experience nila. So we want to bring it to a bigger stage. We want to take it not just in Manila kundi sa iba ibang lugar sa buong Pilipinas para sabay sabay nating ma-witness din yung 35 years ni Ice sa industry. So we have Becoming Ice happening in Cebu this February 18 sa Waterfront Cebu,” she said.

Liza also gave credit to their co-producer and good friend Sylvia Sanchez and her company Nathan Studios who believed in the vision of their new company.

“Hindi namin ito magagawa kung hindi sa suporta ni nanay Ibyang (Sylvia’s nickname). We call her nanay kasi talagang pamilya na ang turingan namin sa isa’t isa. And Nathan Studios as our co-producer and partner allowed us to take Becoming Ice in different cities all over the Philippines as well as sa iba’t ibang parte ng mundo. So we’ll actually be going to Canada, Australia, and hopefully the US int he coming months. But for now we’re so happy that from Manila we’re bringing it to Cebu. Cebu is very, very special to Ice kasi talagang very meticulous ang audience dun and I think they will appreciate Ice’s music,” she added.

Kicking off their events this year is their show The Divine Divas which will headline talented local drag queens Precious Paula Nicole, Vinas Deluxe, and Brigiding.

“We’re mounting the very first major concert of our local drag queens here in the Philippines. Nag-start yan dahil sa kasikatan ng Drag Race Philippines. They brought the art and culture of drag to the Philippines in the mainstream through that reality show. Meron din tayo ngayong Drag Den galing naman sa Project Eight at sa Cornerstone.

“Kailangan ituloy tuloy natin because ang mga opportunities na ito ay mga vehicles or mga platforms para mas maka-relate ang ating mga kababyan, ang ating public, para maintindihan ang LGBT community. And what better way to do that than to showcase it on the main stage through a colorful, explosive performance ng ating mga drag queens,” she proudly shared.

The Fire and Ice founder also talked about being hopeful about the return of live entertainment in the country.

“It’s nice na salubungin yung 2023 with the promise na talagang sumisigla na ulit ang industriya natin. Kaya samahan niyo kami na suportahan ang Becoming Ice sa Cebu on February 18 at ang the ultimate drag experience na ang Divine Divas Live sa February 10 sa New Frontier theater. These two shows that we are so proud to mount para sa publiko. Like with anything, I think more than just saying these things, I think you need to experience it. Nakita niyo naman in Fire and Ice, we create experience,” she said.
