Aside from being launched as the new calendar girl for a local whisky brand, actress Ria Atayde was also happy about another new blessing in her life as she also opened up about her relationship with Zanjoe Marudo. The Dirty Linen star finally confirmed their relationship in a recent interview with journalist Karen Davila.

“We started from friends talaga. I feel like being friends is always a good place to start for any relationship. Getting to know each other on that level and then progressing is always a beautiful story,” Ria admitted during her White Castle Whisky calendar girl presscon held last January 17 in Quezon City.

The 30-year-old Star Magic talent also shared Zanjoe’s reaction to her new calendar girl status this year.

“At this point kasi I want to be accountable for my decisions so walang pagpapaalam. More of pagpapa-alam, if anything. Siya na lang tanungin niyo ‘no (laughs). Supportive naman siya. He’s been very supportive throughout this whole thing.

“I think more than being fantasized about naman, the whole point of this calendar is to advocate for issues at hand and right now, body dysmorphia is such a thing with social media and I think if that’s the message we’re getting across then okay na ako dun,” she said.

Netizens started speculating about the real status of their relationship last year when they were seen getting close on photos on social media. Ria admitted why she is open about her relationship to a certain extent now.

“I feel like it’s all out in the open anyway. I don’t think there’s anything to deny and to confirm. I feel like it’s already out there so take what it is for what it is, I guess.

“But I think there’s a lot more peace in keeping things private. I know I am a public figure and that does come with the territory. Pero feel ko, the status is already so public. Why do I have to make other things about it public? Like okay na ako na alam ng tao. Okay na yun. But to have the ins and outs known pa, parang okay na akong huwag na. I think hindi namin pinag-usapan pero we’re in agreement,” she explained.

It was Ria’s mom Sylvia Sanchez who first confirmed Ria’s closeness with Zanjoe.

“Ganun naman talaga (laughs). That’s inevitable. She’s not going to lie. Parang why would she lie for me? Hindi ko alam (na gagawin niya). Nagulat kaming lahat (laughs),” she said.

Ria also admitted how her family’s approval was crucial to her.

“Who wouldn’t be happy? Important sa akin ang family. It should always be the opinions of those who matter to you that should matter to you. And that matters. Dad likes him naman din. My family is very supportive. Nakaalalay lang sila. Nakaantabay sa mga ganap ng life,” she added.
