MMFF 2023: Complete lineup announced

The 10 official entries to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) have been finally announced.

The lineup includes a family drama starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards; a Star Cinema offering, Rewind, starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes; and the much-awaited big-screen reunion of veteran stars Vilma Santos and Christopher de Leon. 

Here are the 10 official entries, selected from 26 submissions:

• Rewind - a fantasy drama starring Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes, directed by Mae Cruz Alviar

• Family of Two (Mother and Son Story) starring Sharon Cuneta and Alden Richards, directed by Nuel Naval

• (K)ampon, a horror film starring Derek Ramsay and Beauty Gonzalez, directed by King Palisoc

• Penduko, an action film starring Matteo Guidicelli and Cristine Reyes, directed by Jason Paul Laxamana

• Firefly, a drama film starring Alessandra De Rossi and child actor Euwenn Mikael, directed by Zig Dulay

• GomBurZa, a historical film starring Dante Rivero, Cedrick Juan, and Enchong Dee, with Piolo Pascual, directed by Pepe Diokno

• When I Met You In Tokyo, a romantic-drama starring Vilma Santos, Christopher De Leon, and Tirso Cruz III, directed by Rado Peru and Rommel Penesa

• Mallari, a horror-thriller starring Piolo Pascual, with Janella Salvador, Elisse Joson and Gloria Diaz, directed by Derick Cabrido  

• Becky and Badette, a comedy film starring Eugene Domingo and Pokwang, directed by Jun Robles Lana

• Broken Hearts Trip, a romance-comedy film starring Christian Bables, Teejay Marquez, Andoy Ranay, and Iyah Mina, directed by Lemuel Lorca 


Last year, the psychological thriller Deleter starring award-winning actress Nadine Lustre led the lineup of the 48th MMFF, taking home a total of seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Mikhail Red, and the Best Actress award for Nadine.

The 49th MMFF will be held from December 25, 2023 to January 7, 2024 in cinemas nationwide. Awardees will be recognized at the Gabi Ng Parangal which is scheduled for December 27.
