After being launched as the first celebrity ambassador of a local brand of sangria last month, singer and songwriter Moira dela Torre said she had to think it over since she herself was not really a hard drinker.

“Gusto niyo ba sumagot, lasinggera ba ako? Hindi? Pero mabilis ba ako malasing? Ayon po, no comment. Ito na lang po. Mag kwe-kwento na lang po ako. Nag TikTok po ako for Maria Clara Sangria, tapos naka-tatlong glass po ako, pagkatapos ko po i-shoot ‘yon, nalasing na po ako. Hindi pa po nalabas yong Virgin Sangria no’n. So ‘yon po (laughs),” she shared during her launch as the newest brand ambassador of Maria Clara Sangria.

Even though she is now endorsing an alcohol brand, Moira would like to remind the public that they should still always try to drink responsibly.

“For the real Maria Clara campaign in general, I think it’s a moderation. It's your constant companion. It’s a constant that we don’t overdo it. I think in the new lifestyle that I have adapted into my life. it’s something that I would go to whenever I want to rest, whenever I want to just have my down time or whatever I just want to reward myself. It’s not something I deprived myself of and so it can be a reward,  it could be rest, it can be something I can celebrate alone or with the people I love. Everything in moderation and Maria Clara fits very well into that,” she explained.

Apart from being the face of the brand in their billboards, Moira was also asked to pen their jingle with an original song which was a different kind of writing process for her.

“Hindi naman po ako nakainom noon but I actually wrote three other songs for Maria Clara. I actually sang for commercial jingles when I first started my career and in my first few years in the industry, I was actually singing for my commercial jingles, and so I kind of have an idea of how brands want their commercial jingles to sound like.

“So when Maria Clara approached me, I thought in my head that was how they had originally wanted the jingle to sound but in the end, when I looked back at the campaign brief it was very far from the jingles that I had made, and so I made something that I thought would be nice to listen to whenever you have a Maria Clara glass on hand, and trying to unwind, and [seeing] Maria Clara as that constant companion, and trying to forget things, escape things, or trying to just rest your mind from thinking about the things you don’t want to think about for a moment. I wanted to accompany that with music that will ease your mind for even just for a little bit and remind you that, ‘Kaya mo ‘yan. You’re not alone in this, and things are going to be alright,’” she recalled.
