OPM band Lola Amour faced criticism from several netizens for "romanticizing poverty" in their newly released music video for their hit song, "Raining in Manila."

As a result, the band took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to provide a detailed explanation for the concept behind the teaser of their music video.

The "Raining in Manila" music video has gained over 250,000 views on YouTube since its release earlier this week. In the teaser, the band is shown singing, dancing, and enjoying themselves in a residential area while it is raining. They are also seen swimming in the flooded area.

This video has led some netizens to call out the band for being "insensitive" to the struggles that ordinary citizens face during heavy rain. Some have even asked the band to redo the entire music video.

“This feels like when rich kids document their field/ charity work for clout. Yikes,” a concerned netizen shared.

Lola Amour then responded on X and said that the music video is about a man who reconnects with his long-lost wife through a magic gecko –– an alternate world where it has been raining for 1,427 days.

“Hey guys! We just want to say that we hear you and we understand your disappointment. We were not sensitive enough about how the teaser was presented, and with that, we are sorry. We do hope you give the MV a chance as it was greatly misrepresented by the teaser,” they shared.

After the band responded to the backlash to the teaser, some netizens encouraged others to watch the full video instead of just the short clip. Meanwhile, others continued to show their support for the band despite the initial negative feedback.

“I did watch the music video. I agree, at first I thought it was tone deaf and insensitive but idk, I watched the video and it was not even focused on the baha or ulan. I feel like it is a work of fiction with bits of reality lang. I suggest you watch it too,” a netizen expressed.

"Raining in Manila" recently broke the record for the biggest weekly streams for an OPM song on Spotify Philippines chart history––amassing 5.14 million streams in a single week.
