Enchong Dee on starring in 'Gomburza': It’s a dream project for me!'

Enchong Dee admitted that he is excited for people to watch him bring to life the role of Padre Jacinto Zamora, who is one of the three Catholic priests executed by Spaniards in 1872 on charges of subversion.
He is one of the stars of the Metro Manila Film Festival historical biopic entry Gomburza.
“It’s a dream role eh. It’s a dream project for me because I’ve always wanted to do a historical or biopic. Tapos nataon pa na pareho siya sa historical and biopic pa yung nagawa," he told PUSH in an exclusive interview.
"So, it’s something that I’m very thankful for. Especially bilang artista, marami kang kailangang pagdaanan bago ka mapagkatiwalaan ng isang ganitong proyekto eh. So masayang masaya, sobra," he added.
Before accepting the project, Enchong admitted that he already had an idea of what Gomburza's story was about when he studied it in school. Then again, he said he still learned a lot more about the historical priests after shooting the film.

“Oh yes. I’m aware of them pero yung detalye na nalaman ko after namin i-shoot yung pelikula, sabi ko, ‘Ah, ang konti pala ng kaalaman ko.’ Simply because during that time when I was studying, hindi naman siya isang buong chapter eh. Isang buong page lang. And hopefully, this film would shine a light doon sa kuwento ng tatlong martyr na pare,” he remarked.

With a strong storyline and an ensemble cast of characters, Enchong admitted that he has high hopes for it to create a big impact on the local audience.

“Siguro para sa akin, gusto ko kasi mas maraming pelikula 'yung magawa in the future about our national heroes. Tama 'yung tagline ng Gomburza eh, 'Nag-aalab pa ba yung puso natin para sa bansa natin?' Because we want to encourage the younger generation na hanapin natin yung dahil kung bakit natin natatawag yung sarili natin na PIlipino," he said.

With a cast that also includes Cedrick Juan, Dante Rivero, Piolo Pascual, Elijah Canlas, Ketchup Eusebio, Khalil Ramos, and Jeffrey Quizon, the 35-year-old actor admitted that he is happy to get to know his colleagues more now that they have been busy promoting the film before its opening day on December 25.
With a cast that also includes Cedrick Juan, Dante Rivero, Piolo Pascual, Elijah Canlas, Ketchup Eusebio, Khalil Ramos, and Jeffrey Quizon, the 35-year-old actor admitted that he is happy to get to know his colleagues more now that they have been busy promoting the film before its opening day on December 25.
“When I was working with them, wala kaming masyadong bonding simply because three days after namin i-wrap up 'yung Here Comes the Groom, sinimulan ko kagad ito. So, wala akong masyadong time to hang out with everyone," he said.

"But now, because it’s promo season, dun kami nagkakaroon ng bonding. So, I’m building a good friendship with sila Cedrick, sila Dylan (Tay Talon), Elijah, and Tommy (Alejandrino). So, I’m really happy,” he added.

Aside from Gomburza, Enchong also had his hands full attending multiple international film festivals this year because of his various projects.

“I think 2023 is a miracle for me. The question na laging tumatakbo sa utak ko parang, ‘Who does this?’ Parang dream come true yung buong 2023 ko. I’ve always wanted to attend a film festival," he said.

"Parang pinahintulutan ako ng Panginoon na maka-attend ng limang fest festival internationally with three different films and hopefully Gomburza also will go outside next year. So, sabi ko it’s a miracle. 2023 is a miracle for Enchong Dee,” he added.
