John Regala passes away at 58

Veteran screen actor John Regala died earlier today, June 3. His wife, Victoria Scherrer, confirmed the news to ABS-CBN News. She revealed that John suffered cardiac arrest due to his liver and kidney complications which led to his passing. 

John was 58 years old.

Prior to the confirmation of John’s wife, entertainment writer Aster Amoyo broke the news earlier on her official Facebook account. She is considered one of John’s friends even outside of the showbiz industry.

“Veteran actor John Regala (John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer) - 58 died this morning at 6:00 am due to multiple ailments.  Let us all pray for the eternal repose of his soul. (May 28, 1965 - June 3, 2023),” she wrote on her Facebook account.

Other actors and entertainers such as Allen Dizon, Ricky Davao, Randy Santiago, and Gary Ejercito commented on Aster’s post their condolences and prayers for their friend. Meanwhile, Nadia Montenegro reposted the news on her Instagram Stories as she bid farewell to the actor. Nadia had once spearheaded a fundraising campaign to help the actor with his medical expenses.

“Rest in peace John! Tapos na [ang] hirap mo,” she wrote.

The late actor made headlines three years ago during the onset of the COVID-19 after he shared that he was suffering from liver cirrhosis and gout. Various celebrities and citizens previously showed support for the veteran actor by giving monetary donations to help fund his treatment. 

In a previous interview with DZMM, John shared how he has been dealing with his illness.

“Medyo malala na ang aking liver cirrhosis pero hindi naman ako nainom ng alak ever since. Di ko alam baka sa fatty foods ko nakuha siguro. Tapos bukod dun, may tubig nga ako sa tiyan, kailangan butasin ang aking tiyan para mailabas yung tubig,” he shared.

John was last seen on screen during his stint on FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
