<div><span style="background-color:transparent">After getting married in 2020 to longtime boyfriend and singer Jay R, Mica Javier said it was a different kind of newlywed experience for them deciding to get hitched during the start of the pandemic. </span><span style="background-color:transparent"></span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">“We got married a week or so before the whole world shut down, so we were grateful that the wedding pushed through. Spending our ‘honeymoon’ in the confines of our home was so much fun for us and turned out to be best bonding experience in getting to know each other on a deeper level. The biggest challenges were getting used to each other’s expectations and individual personal behaviors while living together, but we learned to communicate and adapt to each other quickly.</span></div><div><span style="background-color:transparent">“The only main thing that changed with us is that we are bi-continental now; mostly living in the US, but traveling back to the Philippines to take care of business too. I thought we would stay three months max but the situation prolonged. Once we passed three months and the lockdown was still heavily implemented in Manila, we just decided to stay in LA and use the time to fix my US paperwork since we weren’t able to do any of that after Jay R and I got married. That process required me to stay in the US indefinitely, until I got my green card. We had to pivot quickly and transition our lives into actually living in the US right away. We got our vaccines for free at the pharmacy, COVID tests were all free, masks weren’t too strictly implemented—only required if you go into a store, etc. Then within a month after that, LA dropped the mask mandate, and it has been open ever since. Imagine Jay R and I coming off the plane with full quarantine gear, face masks and face shields, disinfecting sprays on hand—we were definitely over prepared with precaution while everyone else in LA were living like normal. I was in and out of lock-in taping for six months before we flew to the US, which was a blessing because when we first arrived in the US, <em>Init Sa Magdamag </em>began airing on TFC. I met a lot of Filipinos in LA that saw and followed my work on the show. It was the first time I realized the positive impact of the work we do as artists in entertainment, on OFWs. Now that we’ve been in the US for some time, I do miss actively working on set on TV shows and movie projects but I’m also excited to expand my career and opportunities here,” she admitted.</p>
