KC Concepcion grateful to ABS-CBN for ‘being my training ground’

After starting off her acting career over 15 years ago with the Star Cinema film For the First Time, actress and model KC Concepcion continues to make her celebrity parents proud.
This, as she picks up on her acting career this year with the American film Asian Persuasion.
The only daughter of Gabby Concepcion and Sharon Cuneta is set to play her first ever divorceé role as Fil-Am go-getter Avery Chua, who also has a daughter with her ex-husband played by Dante Basco.
Despite not having any kids in real life yet, KC said she and her onscreen daughter were able to bond very easily.

“My daughter here is Scarlet (Sher). If you’ve seen Hustlers, siya 'yung anak ni Constance Wu sa movie ni J.Lo na Hustlers. She also played Gemma Chan’s daughter in her recent series," KC shared during the Asian Persuasion press launch held earlier this month in BGC, Taguig City.

"So 'yun na nga po, artista na artista na nga rin 'yung bata. So, it was very important for me to really have that connection with her. And it was really natural for us. Talagang magkasundong-magkasundo kami ni Scarlet sa set," she added.

“Of course I have ABS-CBN to thank for also being my training ground dito in the context of this kind of project. Talagang I’m so grateful. Hindi ko kaya gawin ito kung hindi dahil sa experience ko sa mga teleserye and 'yung experience ko working with ABS-CBN siyempre," she admitted.

"So in a way, kahit na this is my first movie na not a network project, nararamdaman ko pa rin 'yung presensiya ng ABS-CBN sa performance ko kasi diyan talaga ako natuto dito sa atin sa PIlipinas. So hopefully I get to experience more of it,” she added.

KC also shared how getting cast in Asian Persuasion was totally unexpected for her, revealing that she received a call out of the blue from the movie’s director and producer, Jhett Tolentino.

“This was really unexpected. I went there for an event in December, for an HBO Max premiere. And then, little did I know, a few weeks later, I would get a call from when I was in Los Angeles Jhett asking me to fly to New York and live there for a few months for work," she said.

"So I wasn’t really thinking na ito na 'yung magiging persona ko ulit after a while. But thanks to Jhett, I accidentally fell into this film and even if English siya, masasabi ko pa ring kuwento siya ng pamilyang Pilipino na laking Amerika. So it’s also part of us kasi tao natin 'yun eh. Nandun lang sila sa Amerika. Lagi silang tumitingin kung anong nangyayari dito," she added.

Thankfully. So I’m glad to be in this era or this generation kung saan tanggap na ang Asian at ang Filipino sa international scene,” she admitted.
