<p>MANILA - Senate President Francis Escudero has taken his oath as the presiding officer of the impeachment court in the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.</p><p>This, after Sen. Joel Villanueva made a motion that the impeachment court will be convened on June 11 and that senator-judges take their respective oaths on June 10 at 4 p.m.</p><p>Escudero’s oath-taking took place after the Senate minority formally moved for the opening of the impeachment trial, following several delays.</p><p>In a statement following Escudero’s oathtaking, Senator Ronald Dela Rosa expressed his support for the Senate President.</p><p>“I support you, Mr. President, whether we want it today or Wednesday, June 11, 2025. It is up to you. I am not a lawyer but I am somebody who hopes that our country will not be in a mess and we will remain united,” he said.</p><p>The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on February 5 for &quot;high crimes&quot; including corruption and an alleged assassination plot against former ally and running mate President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.</p><p>Escudero earlier announced that the prosecution panel&#x27;s scheduled presentation at the Senate would be moved to June 11 instead of June 2, citing the tackling of &quot;priority legislative measures before the 19th Congress adjourns&quot; as the reason for the postponement.</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rrDT1mgz-V8?autoplay=1&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
