One of the highlights of the currently ongoing Motorsport Carnivale event happening at Okada Manila in Pasay City until August 6 is the gathering of up to 700 cars this weekend for different events which include a car meet, a Philippine Rallycross Series from Tarlac to Manila, and a grand awarding ceremony which will honor top celebrity racers like Richard Gomez and Matteo Guidicelli.

“It’s a motorsport award for all the contributions that they’ve given to motorsports in the Philippines. Bale Motorsports Carnivale is recognizing everything na na-achieve nila and everything na na-contribute nila so Philippine motor sports,” shares Motorsport Carnivale chairman Jomari Yllana during the press conference held last August 1 at Okada Manila in Paranaque City.

During the event, Jomari shared Richard and Matteo’s reaction when he informed them of the award they planned to give them this Sunday as part of the culmination of Motorsport Carnivale 2023.

“Masaya sila. They’re very thankful. Ilan ilan lang kami talaga sa showbiz na yung nandun sa industriya ng karera, ‘di ba? Parang alam ko na magiging kaligayahan sa kanila na ma-recognize yun. So kami yung nakakaalam sa pinagdaanan na hirap namin nung panahon na kami’y nag-co-compete pa sa competition,” he said.

When asked about how he feels about his former Palibhasa Lalake co-star, Jomari did not hide his admiration for Richard whom he first met as a teenager when he was launched as part of the trio called the “Gwapings.”

“Hindi mo matawaran yung contribution niya . Matindi. Basta sports. Kami naman sa Motorsport Carnivale, nire-recognize namin yung motor sport na side niya which is a part of his life when he was very young. Kami kasing Gwapings, parang kaming bunso. Pag kinakausap namin nung mga elders, hindi namin alam kung seryoso o hindi or ginu-good time kami. Alam mo naman yung mga kuya ko, si kuya Joey (Marquez), si kuya Anjo (Yllana), si John (Estrada). Sa akin, para siyang kinikilig. Same with Matteo. Nagpapasalamat, (he was) very thankful. Wala kaming naaalala na na-recognize na sila, including Michelle (Bumgarner). So very happy si Goms, very thankful, very excited. He’ll be coming from the wedding of Maja (Salvador) and Rambo (Nuñez). So he said he’ll be available then,” he explained.
