Bar Boys: A New Musical returns this October

Bar Boys: A New Musical–– the law school musical that surprised everyone–– is set to make its return this October. Theater company Barefoot Theatre Collaborative announced that the highly-requested musical is having a five-week run at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater in Circuit Makati.

The much-awaited return of the musical will also see the reprise of its original cast–– Benedix Ramos (Erik), Alex Diaz (Chris), Jerom Canlas (Torran), Omar Uddin (Josh), and Sheila Francisco (Justice Hernandez). Other roles and characters have yet to be announced as of this writing.

The musical will run this October 4 to November 3, 2024 and tickets are available via Ticket2Me (bit.ly/barboystickets).

Bar Boys: A New Musical is the musical stage adaptation of the well-love 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino film by Kip F. Oebanda. It follows the life of four friends and their journey to become lawyers, their dreams, ideals, and even friendship are challenged by the demands of law school, the pressures of love and life, and the harsh reality of the world.

Book and lyrics are by Pat Valera, who will return to direct alongside Mikko Angeles. Myke Salomon, who composed the adaptation’s original songs, also serves as the musical director. Jomelle Era will also return for movement direction.

Theater fans expressed their excitement for the rerun of the well-loved musical. Some netizens shared how difficult it was to get a ticket as the shows were selling out real fast.

Apart from Bar Boys: A New Musical, Barefoot Theatre Collaborative has been staging other world-class theatrical live performances.

Their recent works include the mega-hit musical Mula sa Buwan and the critically-acclaimed Pride Plays: Unica Hijas & Laro, and the successful local staging of Jason Robert Brown’s The Last Five Years, among others.
