Hidilyn Diaz to miss Paris Olympics 2024

<p>Filipina Olympic weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz will be unable to defend her gold medal in the Olympics as she failed to secure her slot for Paris 2024. Hidilyn previously represented the country under the 55 kg weight class while Elreen was in the 64 kg class during her debut appearance in Tokyo 2020. </p><p>In an interview with the IWF, Hidilyn shared that Paris 2024 may not be for her but she isn’t stopping from working on her goals. </p><p>“I love this sport, I don’t want to stop… But what I have to do now is take a good rest and think about the priorities in my life. Today wasn’t my day. Paris was not to be,” she told the IWF.</p><p>Hidilyn became the country’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist for her spectacular performance in Tokyo 2020 where she defeated some of the world’s best weightlifters in her class. I’ve given a lot to this sport and it’s given a lot to me,” she added.</p><p>On her Instagram, the Olympic gold medalist shared that she is currently enjoying her free time with her husband, Julius Naranjo.</p><p>“NOW, FOR THE MUCH NEEDED FAMILY TIME… Du’n tayo sa FOREVER. God and Family are Forever,” she wrote.</p>
