Multiple stars share top awards at the 40th PMPC Star Awards for Movies

<p>In an unprecedented move, the Philippine Movie Press Club released a partial list of winners for the 40th PMPC Star Awards for Movies last July 12, days before the actual award ceremony.</p><p>What they did leave out were the winners for the last six major awards. </p><p>On the evening of the 40th PMPC Star Awards for Movies held last July 21 at the Henry Lee Irwin Theatre at the Ateneo de Manila University, everyone waited with bated breath for the announcement of winners for the final categories.</p><p>The award for Indie Movie Director of the Year went to Louie Ignacio for the indie movie Litrato, which also won the award for Indie Movie of the Year and will soon be shown on movie streaming platform Netflix. </p><p>Other nominees for Indie Movie Director of the Year were: Adolfo Alix, Jr. (Pieta), Joel Lamangan (Fall Guy), Benedict Mique (Monday First Screening), Carl Joseph Papa (Iti Mapukpukaw), FM Reyes (In His Mother’s Eyes), and Vincent Tañada (Ako Si Ninoy). </p><p>Meanwhile, other nominees for Indie Movie of the Year were: Ako Si Ninoy, </p><p>Fall Guy, In His Mother’s Eyes, Iti Mapukpukaw, Monday First Screening, andPieta.</p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:400px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/PMPC-8.jpg" style="width:400px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">Photo credit: <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:start;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:pre-line;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">316 Media Network</span> </span></span></span></div><p>Derick Cabrido was named Movie Director of the Year for the horror film Mallari, which also bagged the award for Movie of the Year. </p><p>Other nominees for Movie Director of the Year were: Nuel Crisostomo Naval (Family Of Two), Mae Czarina Cruz Alviar (Rewind), Pepe Diokno (Gomburza), Zig Dulay (Firefly), Rommel Penesa and Conrado Peru (When I Met You In Tokyo), and Irene Emma Villamor (Five Breakups And A Romance). </p><p>Meanwhile, other nominees for Movie of the Year were: Family Of Two, Firefly, Five Breakups And A Romance, GomBurZa, Rewind, and When I Met You In Tokyo. </p><div><span class="fr-img-caption fr-fic fr-dib" style="width:400px"><span class="fr-img-wrap"><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/PMPC-7.jpg" style="width:400px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/><span class="fr-inner">Photo credit: <span id="isPasted" style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0);letter-spacing:normal;orphans:2;text-align:start;text-indent:0px;text-transform:none;widows:2;word-spacing:0px;-webkit-text-stroke-width:0px;white-space:pre-line;background-color:rgb(255, 255, 255);text-decoration-thickness:initial;text-decoration-style:initial;text-decoration-color:initial;display:inline !important;float:none">Mentorque Productions</span> </span></span></span></div><p>The award for Movie Actor of the Year was a tie shared by Alden Richards for Five Breakups and a Romance and Dingdong Dantes for Rewind. </p><p>“Bilang isang aktor, malinaw po sa amin na kami po ang nagiging instrumento ng mga gustong sabihin ng mga filmmakers, madalas ng lipunan,” said Dingdong, stating that the message of Rewind was much bigger than them. “At iyon ay na lahat ng bagay dito sa mundo, temporary lang. Talagang kahit anong gawin natin, akala natin tayo ay in control of everything, ang katunayan noon ay hindi: dahil Siya lang talaga ang may control ng lahat. Gaya nga ng sinasabi sa akin ng aking tatay: everything comes from the Lord.” </p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/PMPC-6.jpg" style="width:500px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>“I think ‘yung tinuro po sa akin ng pelikulang ito is that sometimes there’s beauty in the unknown,” said Alden, admitting that he and co-actor Julia Montes were initially apprehensive about doing Five Breakups and a Romance. “I think risk is always around the corner, but you just have to jump into it. Kailangan mo lang tanggapin at gawin ang lahat ng iyong makakaya.”</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/PMPC-5.jpg" style="width:500px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Other actors nominated for their notable performances were: Sean de Guzman (Fall Guy), Christopher De Leon (When I Met You In Tokyo), Cedrick Juan (Gomburza), Coco Martin (Apag), Piolo Pascual (Mallari), Roderick Paulate (In His Mother’s Eyes), Romnick Sarmenta (About Us Not About Us), and Alfred Vargas (Pieta). </p><p>In a historic turn of events, the award for Movie Actress of the Year was a triple tie shared by Superstar Nora Aunor for Pieta, Star for All Seasons Vilma Santos for When I Met You In Tokyo, and Diamond Star Maricel Soriano for In His Mother’s Eyes. </p><p>“Hindi ko naman ine-expect ito. Alam ko si Ate Vi at si Ate Guy ang mananalo dito. Nasali ako, napakaswerte ko naman,” said Maricel, sharing her award with the cast and crew of In His Mother’s Eyes.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/PMPC-3.jpg" style="width:400px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>While Vilma was not able to make it to the ceremony, Vilmanians were present to show their pride and support for her. Noranians also waved flaglets and cheered for their idol. </p><p>“Sa mga Noranians, lahat ng karangalang natanggap ko ay dahil sa inyo. Para sa inyo po iyan.
