Hidilyn Diaz opens weightlifting academy on a special day

<p>Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo just opened the HD Weightlifting Academy with her husband and coach Julius Naranjo last July 26. One year later, we tie the knot and get married. And another year later, we open the @hdweightliftingacademy and commemorate our love for the sport and give back to grassroots,” Julius wrote.</p><p>The weightlifting academy–– located in Rizal–– has been a dream of theirs as they’ve previously started in a small garage before having a proper gym.</p><p>Friends of the Olympic gold medalist were in attendance to celebrate the couple’s new milestone. Hidilyn shared that her friends came from various parts of the country and the globe–– some coming from Brunei and Malaysia while others from Manila, Zamboanga, and La Union, among others.</p><p>The gym was blessed by the same priest that offiated their wedding ceremony as well.</p><p>“I am thankful and blessed to be with people who are with us, and show support, with Julius, and the HDWLA,” Hidilyn shared.</p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2024/7/27/hidilyn-diaz-to-pinoy-athletes-at-2024-olympics-nasa-inyo-ang-aking-suporta-at-panalangin-1630"><strong>READ: Hidilyn Diaz to Pinoy athletes at 2024 Olympics: ‘Nasa inyo ang aking suporta at panalangin’</strong></a></div><p>Meanwhile, Julius penned a short but sweet message for his wife to mark their second anniversary as a married couple. He expressed his gratitude as well to everyone who supported their advocacy in making future Filipino weightlifters.</p><p>“Happy anniversary to the wife, let us continue to build on our love and for the kids who are the future of the country. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us from day 1, you know who you are… We will do our best to give the kids the best and build them to be great, shrewd ,and great people,” he shared.</p><p>Hidilyn wasn’t able to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics–– the first time since she joined Beijing 2008. She had to join the 59 kg division for the qualifiers as her previous class, 55 kg, was scrapped by the Paris 2024 Olympics.</p>
