<p>Lily Monteverde, the legendary matriarch and founder of Regal Entertainment, has passed away at the age of 85. Her son, Goldwin Monteverde, head coach of the UP Fighting Maroons, confirmed her death through a text message to GMA News Online.</p><p>Widely known as “Mother Lily” in the showbiz industry, Mother Lily was a prominent figure in Philippine cinema. She founded Regal Entertainment in August 1962, serving as its president and CEO until her death. Her production company produced numerous blockbuster films and was instrumental in discovering and nurturing the careers of many notable actors and actresses in the Philippines.</p><p>Mother Lily’s career spanned several decades, during which she produced over 300 films. Some of her most notable works include the Mano Po anthology, Scorpio Nights, Blue Moon, and the Shake, Rattle, &amp; Roll series.</p><p>Her contributions to the film industry were recognized with numerous awards, including the Ina ng Pelikulang Pilipino Award in 2017 and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023 from the Film Development Council of the Philippines.</p><p>Mother Lily’s death comes shortly after the passing of her husband, Leonardo “Father Remy” Monteverde, who died on July 29 at the age of 86. He was laid to rest on August 3.</p><p>Senator Grace Poe, among those who mourned Mother Lily&#x27;s death, expressed her condolences on Instagram, saying, “I’m so sorry and sad to hear about Mother Lily’s passing. My Ninang Mother always believed in me and assured me whenever I doubted myself. She has helped so many and she will never be forgotten. She was, and will always be, a Titan in the Philippine movie industry. As of press time, neither Regal Entertainment nor other relatives have released an official statement about Mother Lily&#x27;s death.</p><p>Born Lily Yu Chu, Mother Lily’s impact on the Philippine entertainment industry is unparalleled. Her vision and dedication to producing high-quality films have left an indelible mark on the industry. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations of filmmakers and actors.</p><p>The Philippine entertainment industry mourns the loss of both Lily and Leonardo Monteverde.
