Sharlene San Pedro stars in new  Knowledge Channel show on financial literacy

<p>Knowledge Channel is set to launch an exciting financial literacy show for students titled Estudyantipid, starring Sharlene San Pedro, Stanley Chi and more on Monday, September 16.</p><p>In a media launch on Friday, September 13 at a public school in Quezon City, Knowledge Channel Foundation Inc. Vice President Edric Calma shared how important it is for the younger generation to learn the importance of saving and budgeting at a young age.</p><p>“Importante na maisip ninyong mga kabataan ang kasalukuyan na may alam na kayo sa pag(budget ng inyong kaperahan) kasi kapag nasanay kayo ngayong mga bata pa kayo, hindi na kayo mahihirapan sa buhay dahil alam niyo na i-plano ang inyong kinabukasan,” he said.</p><div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/EstudyanTipid-1.jpg" style="width:600px" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div><p>Quezon City Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Isabel Sibayan also shared how important and impactful the project is for the young ones to know the dos and don&#x27;ts in handling their own finances, regardless of how much they saved or earned.</p><p>“Napakahalaga na sabi nga nila ‘You start them young’. Kasi ‘yung mga konsepto na ito ay application ng mga life skills and soft skills, so kakaiba sa mga itinuturo natin ito. Talagang kailangan nakikita nating naisasabuhay ng mga bata,” she shared.</p><p>BPI Foundation Executive Director Carmina Marquez also added, “We hope that it would have an impact for students and learners as well.”</p><p>She went on: “Financial literacy at an early age is very important. Nandito tayo para turuan ‘yung mga bata to save at an early age. To save and budget and tsaka later on, i-pre-empt ko na ‘yung series, it will also develop the entrepreneurial skills for the students, for the learners.”</p><p>Sharlene will play the role of Marla, a student who asks advices from her elders regarding how she can save her money and know her priorities in spending what she needs versus what she wants.</p><div><iframe src="https://www.facebook.com/plugins/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fknowledgechannel%2Fvideos%2F1950167952122133%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0" width="560" height="314" style="border:none;overflow:hidden" scrolling="no" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Comedian and host Stanley Chi, who will be portraying the educational show’s character Tito Manny, also shared his thoughts on the key takeaway of the show for its young viewers.</p><p>“‘Yung basic na dapat nilang maintindihan‘yung (difference ng) wants and needs, kasi ang bata ‘Ay gusto ko yan, kailangan ko ito. Gusto ko ng bagong gadget, kasi kailangan ko e’.  Kailangan ba talaga ‘yan o gusto mo lang? Para sa akin, ‘yun ‘yung pinakaimportante,” he said.</p><p>Stanley also wanted the kids to understand that saving doesn’t need to start when someone earns a big amount. </p><p>“It’s not how much you earn, it’s how much you save,” he relayed. “‘Yung maiipon mong iyon, ‘yun ang gagamitin mo pangnegosyo. Noong estudyante tayo nagbebenta tayo ng mga maliliit na mga bagay, mga stickers, erasers. Nagbebenta tayo sa mga classmates natin. Practice na ‘yun sa pagnenegosyo.
