Filipino pole vaulter EJ Obiena shared his frustration about fake advertisements using his name and photos that he did not authorize.

On his social media pages, EJ called out products and companies allegedly linking him with such products or services.

“I am dragging myself to share stuff like this but it’s necessary to inform all of you that I don’t endorse gambling!!!” he started.

EJ then emphasized how he carefully chooses what he represents as it should reflect his beliefs and values in life.

“I would like to reassure everyone that I pick and choose very carefully which products/brands I endorse/promote. It’s never 'just about the money' but it has to be a product I can believe in; and also a product that doesn’t undermine values; and supports a healthy and thriving society,” he added.

The world’s No. 3 pole vaulter also expressed how he valued his platform, especially having younger supporters and audience.

“The latter is why I have refused to endorse alcoholic products and/or gambling businesses. Whilst both may be legal, it is irrefutable both are regulated for a reason, and both are restricted from children. I recognize I have a platform that could influence kids and I understand and embrace this responsibility with honor and humility,” he continued.

“I won’t hence endorse products like this,” he stressed.

EJ went on: “Unfortunately, some companies will attempt to loosely link myself, my name and my image to such categories without my approval. Implying I endorse their product or their casino. I DO NOT.”

He then shared that his lawyers are already pursuing such perpetrators and he wanted to clear up things with his supporters and followers to avoid confusion.

“Whilst my lawyers are pursuing this kind of 'Guerilla' marketing legally, I wanted to in-parallel tell everyone directly I am in no way endorsing any alcohol or gambling related products. Ever. Never ever,” he ended his message.

EJ’s post earned praise and admiration from the netizens as the athlete serves as a role model to the younger generation.

“You always stand with honor and humility EJ... that's why a lot of people admire you so much with your advocacy when it comes to sports 🎉🍀✨👏🏻Thank you for being a good role model most esp to the youth 💝,” a fan commented.

Another one said, “Your dedication and discipline in pole vaulting are truly inspiring. It’s not just about the medals and records; it’s about the hard work, resilience, and values you embody. Your recent statement about carefully choosing what you endorse speaks volumes about your integrity and commitment to setting a positive example.”
