BGYO withdraws case against one netizen; continues for others

<p>OPM group BGYO withdrew the case they filed against Rachelle Galang as revealed during a press conference earlier this week. In a statement released the same day, the OPM group asserted their right to fight against the spread of fake news against them.</p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2024/4/23/bgyo-and-bini-s-management-to-take-legal-action-against-individuals-with-malicious-intent-2216" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>READ: BGYO and BINI’s management to take legal action against individuals with malicious intent</u></strong></a></div><p>“Kami po sa BGYO ay naging target ng mga taong sadyang gumawa at nagpakalat ng malicious accusations and rumors para siraan kami. Nuong una po, kami ay nanahimik lang, hoping it will blow over. Hinayaan lang namin ito dahil alam namin, ng aming Management, at ng aming pamilya ang katotohanan,” the official statement went.</p><p>”Patuloy na lumakas ang loob ng mga haters sa pag-iimbento ng mga kwento laban sa amin na nagdulot ng sobrang emotional and mental distress at naapekuthan ang aming reputasyon at career,” they added.</p><p>BGYO continued that while they accepted Rachelle’s apology, they hoped she, alongside the other netizens who maligned them, will learn from their mistakes moving forward. </p><p>The group has withdrawn the case because they considered not only the apology but the netizen’s family as well. </p><div><a href="https://push.abs-cbn.com/2024/6/20/bgyo-files-legal-complaints-against-those-spreading-false-information-1922" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><strong><u>READ: BGYO files legal complaints against those spreading false information</u></strong></a></div><p>“We hope that we can inspire other youths who are victims of cyberbullying and malicious disinformation to recognize their self-worth, realize that they have proper avenues to fight back, and to have the courage to stand up for themselves,” they ended.</p><p>Meanwhile, BGYO member Mikki admitted how the spread of fake information about them has affected their mental health. </p><p>“Well sa totoo lang what happened really affected us in a negative way… For us we’re a group and we’re always there for each other [and] that really helped us get through,” he shared.</p><p>Member JL added that the five of them draw strength from one another and uplift each other. He claimed that none of these baseless rumors can trump the truth about all of them.</p><p>“Imbis na mas isipin namin yung [issues] araw-araw, mas nag tutulungan kaming lima para maka move forward sa everyday na ginagawa namin,” he added.</p><p>BGYO is keen about fighting back against the accusations thrown at them according to their legal counsel. The netizens who were charged with defamation cases posted several misinformation about the group such as acts of rape and sexual assault, among others.</p>
