In the three decades that she’s been in showbiz, Dimples Romana has become one of the brightest and most sought-after actresses of her generation, especially in recent years. She has already portrayed a variety of roles that truly exhibited her versatility and caliber as an actress, with Tori Soler, her character in the new Kapamilya series High Street, being the latest addition to her ever-growing portfolio.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News reporter Victoria Tulad for “Tao Po,” Dimples described Tori as a venture specialist who’s always intentional in everything that she does. And just like her newest character, the Kapamilya actress confessed that contrary to other people’s perception that she is the ‘random’ type, she is actually mindful as well, as she makes sure that she won’t say or do anything that she doesn’t want to say or do.

Being a seasoned actress, Dimples always wants to be challenged in every project that she works on. Thus, she thoroughly prepares for each role entrusted to her, just like Tori.

“It’s a common misconception when you grew up the business like I did na everything comes in easy because nasanay ka na. But in reality, at least for me, if you give me this, I’ll work on it. It gives you a sense of pride in everything that you do because you know na pinaghihirapan mo ‘yon,” she told Victoria.

However, out of all the roles that she has done over the years, there’s one that she continues to diligently work on – becoming a mom to her and non-showbiz husband Boyet Ahmee’s three beloved children, namely, Callie, Alonzo, and Elio.

Getting married and settling down at the tender age of 20 might have brought her the toughest experiences in life, which included being judged for being too young and knowing nothing about building a family of her own, but it was actually an intentional decision between her and Boyet. Thus, Callie wasn’t an accident since they both really wanted to already have a child back then.

“That was coming from my fear of dying early. My Papa kasi passed away at 40 [because of] aneurysm. I had a sister who died at 9 [due to] leukemia. So, because I have that in the family, I’d always thought na sana mag-asawa ako o magkaanak ako nang maaga para ma-try ko man lang maging nanay,” she explained.

During those hard times, she leaned on her beloved husband, who always reminded her that whatever other people would say about her, she could simply look at the eyes of their children because they’re going to be the ones who would tell her who exactly she is. If ever they see her as a hero, then she’s definitely okay and none of the other things would matter.

Since she’s a careerwo-mom, it has been a huge challenge for her to juggle her responsibilities at work and at home. Everyday, she would go to her morning show stint, drive back home to have lunch with her family, and then leave for her teleserye taping. She firmly believes that if she really wants to be present in their lives, she should always make time for them and their bonding moments together.

She and Boyet also have different parenting styles, which depend on the personalities of each of their children and not upon their rules. However, there are instances that they change the rules depending on the situation of the kid, with her being the strictest one especially when it comes to school and values.

Dimples divulged that they’re able to develop their parenting styles along the way and realized that it’s actually not the parents who raise the kids but the other way around. At the end of the day, she believes that it’s all about them listening to their kids even in their silence.

Aside from being able to provide for their needs, Dimples also aspires nothing but for her children to fulfill their ambitions, even though it would mean that they have to be miles away from each other. Just like her firstborn Callie who had to stay in Australia for years in order to attain her dream and is now a licensed commercial pilot.

“I see Callie, she’s having fun. She’s a pilot now, she’s living her dreams. I’m totally okay with it. And I feel that it’s the healthiest form of love – that even you are not the reason ng happiness niya at okay ka do’n, that means that the love that you offer is good for a lifetime and more,” she related.

Attesting to that love were the precious rings given by Callie to her and Boyet as a Christmas gift before she flew to Australia to pursue college, onto which the number of their original house was engraved. It was accompanied by a letter, in which she explained, “I hope these rings would symbolize that whatever I do, wherever I go, everything I do will be because of and leads to home.”

When asked by Victoria, who suddenly turned emotional during the interview, where her wisdom as a mom comes from, Dimples disclosed that it is rooted in pain. “Wala namang panggagalingan ‘yong wisdom kundi pain. I have had many losses in my life to understand that blessings aren’t necessarily always things that are given to you, but also things and people who are taken away.”

While becoming a parent is one of the most beautiful things that could ever happen to a person, it is also the scariest since it has no Take 2. “If you mess this up, that is one potentially sad human being na I don’t want anybody coming out of the house sad. I want my children to get out of my house independent, happy children. I want success, but not really their priority,” she conveyed.

The insightful and lighthearted conversation concluded with Dimples imparting the best thing about being a mom. She told Victoria, “I feel like the best part of being a mom is just having that little piece of your heart actually beating outside of you. I want to make sure that that piece of my heart is beating for the right reasons.

Catch Dimples on High Street, weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5.
